Course Description:

An introduction to the drawing techniques for architectural design process, including both conceptual visualization and finished drawings. Emphasis will be placed on freehand techniques, rendering of materials, shades and shadows as applied to basic drawing types to include plan, elevation, and perspective. Various drawing media, such as pencil, pen, and markers will be used.

CORE COURSE PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

The student will be able to:

1.  Demonstrate ability to use pencil and ink in orthographic, axonometric and perspective drawings for conceptual and preliminary architectural design drawings. [CCC 1] [PGC: AET 1,5]

2.  Demonstrate ability to utilize common drawing and rendering tools in architectural design drawing such as markers and colored pencils in conceptual and preliminary architectural design drawings. [CCC 1] [PGC: AET 1,5]

3.  Demonstrate ability to draw freehand reasonably to scale in orthographic drawing types. [CCC 1] [PGC: AET 1,5]

4.  Demonstrate the application of rendering techniques line, tone, and tones of lines to represent light, shade, and shadow and architectural building materials in conceptual and preliminary architectural design drawings. [CCC 1] [PGC: AET 1,5]

5.  Prepare conceptual and preliminary architectural design drawing utilizing consistent architectural drawing formats and prepare a drawing portfolio. [CCC 1] [PGC: AET 1,5]

Evaluation Criteria

Students will demonstrate proficiency on all measurable performance objectives at least to the 75 percent level. Course evaluation will be based on the weighted average of tests, drawings and other assignments as outlined by the instructor. The instructor may refuse to accept any test, drawing, or assignment that fails to meet the stated deadline.
