Put together a press release to get out to the community and schools.
4:15 pm / VII. Identify Health Disparities Review:
a) Anything Missed.
· There needs to be more current data.
b) Initial Thoughts (What have we learned?)
· There was a lack of diversity around the table. With the media release, should we do a call to action and invite community members to join the group?
· Group was not sure if they completed it correctly when they finished
c) Next Steps.
· Increase attendance.
· Seek out a member from each school district to attend. Could possibly ask the sex advisory curriculum directors. Could possibly be a professional development hours for teachers.
· In the fall, get with Angela Blood to attend the Sex Advisory Board meeting.
d) Was the tool useful? (Why?)
· The process was a good way to generate information and use the information in other areas.
· Thought it was a great discussion, but not much was new information.
· Maybe it would be different for a newer group.
· There are a lot of unknowns for teen pregnancies and STI, and this does not really identify the solutions.
· Tool is great and helpful when there is a facilitator who will assist with the process. Have an outsider come in and assist instead of having the co-chairs administer.
· Seemed repetitive at certain parts.
· Could have been more beneficial to identify one area such as teen pregnancy and complete and then next do STI.
· Could have possibly done smaller groups to address different questions and bring back to the group.
· The tool identified a lot of great topics and discussions, but it would have been very beneficial to have the data at day one and a facilitator to assist with administering.
4:38 pm / VIII. Leadership Cabinet Presentation:
o Each year in May, all of the different Issue Action Group Co-Chairs provide an update to the Leadership Cabinet.
· Going to provide up to date data on teen pregnancy data and STI data. (Possibly UCHS STI screening test.)
· Provide the Resource List.
· Discuss the MiPHY Data and results.
· Highlight how well the group has been working together.
4:46 pm / IX. Organization Updates/Sharing Time:
o There will be new marketing for the program at Battle Creek Schools - including the males along with 0-5 year olds instead of 0-1 year olds.
o Planned Parenthood has a merger and is now named Planned Parenthood of Michigan - no longer Mid & South, Michigan and West & Northern, Michigan.
5:03 pm / X. Adjourn: / Reminder: Thursday, June 9th from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. at BCCF Community Room.
