Home Start, Inc., a 501[c](3) nonprofit corporation, provides child abuse prevention/intervention, youth development and family support services through home visits and 19 centers located in high-need neighborhoods throughout San DiegoCounty. Employee Positions

Parenting Education Instructor (Part-time On Call) (2/14)

Bachelor’s in human services field, minimum one year experience teaching parenting in a community setting, and bilingual (English/Spanish) required. Must have knowledge of child abuse dynamics, family systems, and community resources. Knowledge of STEP curriculum a plus. Instructor is responsible for teaching Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) classes in various community locations in East San Diego County. Class sessions are 1 evening per week for 8 weeks.

Family Support Worker -Targeted Home Visitation Program – North County (3/14) – First 5 First Steps

Bachelor’s degreeor equivalent in social work, psychology, education and/or related human services field; and Bilingual in Spanish required. Experience in providing in-home case management and/orparenting education services required. Knowledge of child abuse dynamics, family systems and community resourcesrequired. Demonstrated ability to engage difficult to reach families in services. Knowledge of Parents as Teachers and/or Healthy families America models a plus. Responsible for conducting family assessments and assisting in conducting outreach and education regarding program services. Responsible for provision of home visitation services to families in accordance with the HFA model. Utilizes the PAT curriculum with families.

On-Call Driver – FSS-C (3/14)

Experienced driver to be on-call to pick up and unload donations of food, clothing and household items in the San Diego area. Must have a California Driver’s License and clean driving record; ability to lift 60 lbs; drive 14 ft. box truck and maintain accurate transportation logs.

Healthcare Outreach and Enrollment Worker- Full-time (5/14)

Bilingual Spanish required; BA preferred or equivalent experience in providing healthcare outreach, education, and enrollment/application services. Certification as a Certified Enrollment Counselor preferred.

Family Support Worker Supervisor -Targeted At Risk Home Visitation Program – East County (5/14)

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field, clinical supervision experience, and 3 years clinical experience providing case management or counseling services to low income, multi-

problem families in an in-home setting required. Knowledge of child abuse dynamics, family systems and community resources required. Knowledge of Healthy Families America and Parents as Teachers home visitation models preferred. Responsible for providing supervision and oversight of Family Support Workers.

Case Manager/Home Visitor II - CSF-East (5/14)

BA in social work or related human services field required; bilingual (English/Arabic or English/Spanish) preferred. Must have experience providing home-based services to low income, at-risk families with knowledge of community resources. Experience with child welfare and knowledge of the East region of San Diego a plus. Strong organizational skills and effective communication skills are essential to the position.

Program Assistant (Part-time) FSS (5/14)

High school diploma, bilingual (English/Spanish), and experience in customer service required. Knowledge and experience in social services and/or emergency assistance programs preferred. This is a part-time position responsible for front desk, answering phones, data entry, food distribution and warehouse assistance including sorting and logging of donations. Must be computer literate with proficiency in data entry and Excel, be able to handle busy phone lines, and lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance.

HOME START’S POLICY ON HOW TO HANDLE INTERNAL APPLICATIONS TO OPEN POSITIONS

If a current employee expresses interest in an open position at Home Start, the hiring supervisor must first advise the employee to discuss this with his/her present supervisor.

Supervisors are obliged to interview them under the following circumstances:

1)The current employee formally applies for the open position by submitting their resume to the appropriate program manager.

2)The current employee possesses the appropriate qualifications and experience to perform the job as required in the job description.

3)Consideration is given to the length of time the applicant has worked at Home Start. A case by case determination of eligibility will be made jointly by the current and the hiring supervisor.

If an internal candidate meets the above requirements, the hiring team would be obliged to interview them for the open position.

If an internal candidate does not meet the above requirements, the hiring team is not obliged to set up an interview. However, the applicant must be informed why he/she was not selected for an interview.
