Final Project – Drama – Not eligible for Academic Recovery
Choose one of the four attached monologues for presentation. You will be given time to rehearse in class, however you will have to memorize and practice your scene AT HOME. You will have to ACT OUT this scene as a presentation to the class. Be prepared to present on the assigned presentation day. Be prepared to submit the responses to the questions on this paper on your presentation day. Due to the timing with the end of the term, this assignment is NOT eligible for Academic Recovery. We will follow the following schedule:

BLOCKING & ANALYSIS Assignment Details:
- Relationship – Who is your character talking to? How long have you known him/her? How does this person make you feel? (15 points)
- Conflict – What does your character want? What tactics/actions will you do/make to get what you want? (15 points)
- Setting – Where does your scene take place? Be specific and detailed. How does this affect how your character speaks/acts? (30 points)
- Draw a diagram of how your stage will be set up.
- What props will you need/use in your scene? Where and how will you use them?
- The Moment Before – What happens right before your character begins to speak? Tell a story and be as specific and detailed as possible – giving an explanation as to what MOTIVATES your character to react/respond with his/her first line. (15 points)
- Movement/Blocking – How will you use your body to show what is happening? (25 points)
- What emotions does your character feel? How can you express this in/through your body and face? What gestures or body language will you use in your scene?
- How is the person you’re talking to reacting to what you are saying? How does this make your character feel? How will your character react to this?
- How will your character end the scene?
- TIPS for a SUCCESSFUL Performance:
- Find a point on the back wall to focus on the person you are talking to in your scene. Use that focal point as a line of sight. Do NOT make eye contact with the audience.
- Stay focused and in character while on stage. If you make a mistake, stay in character and take a breath. Pauses are okay. Use them to your advantage.
- PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE… When you think you have it, practice some more. Practice in front of a family member.
- Remember to hold your final moment or expression. Then pause, address the audience and say, “Thank you.” Then you can return to your seat.
