Job Title: Child Care Worker

Classification: Nonexempt

Job Function: Residential Child Care

The Child Care Worker provides constant and immediate supervision of all Beacon House residents and ensures the security and safety of the Beacon House facility, facility property, residents, and teammates.

Compensation: Employees are compensated minimum wage for the first 40 hours of training. It is imperative that during this period child care workers learn and begin billing Medicaid as it is the organization’s main financial resource and is required of childcare workers. Once employees are deemed competent in billing Medicaid via supervisor evaluation (usually within the first 40 hours of training), compensation is raised to $9.41 per hour to $12.00 per hour based on skills, employment status (full-time, part-time, PRN, etc.) and education/highest degree, ability to produce Medicaid billing documentation, and employee benefits. At any point that the minimum Medicaid billing fails to be completed and submitted by designated time and date due, compensation will be minimum wage. However, Medicaid notes for hours scheduled are still required.

Job Responsibilities:

·  Supervise and enforce resident’s daily schedule to include but not limited to: meals, chores, education, groups, recreation, shopping, sleeping hours, etc.

·  Enforce all resident rules and regulations as indicated in Resident Manual.

·  Intervene immediately with residents regarding rules violations, especially those which compromise the safety or security of self, others, or property.

·  Complete appropriate documentation regarding interventions for rules violations (FIB reports, staff alerts, etc.).

·  Instruct residents in basic living skills (individual and/or group).

·  Train and assist residents in maintaining clean and sanitary living environment by utilizing the chore checklists and deep cleaning lists.

·  Supervise and perform necessary cleaning requirements to meet health department and agency standards.

·  Maintain safety and security checks by following all procedures and protocols. This is to include visual verification of every resident’s presence and safety every 15 minutes around the clock.

·  Complete necessary log book entries to verify whereabouts of all residents.

·  Monitor all activities of any resident utilizing computers (i.e. observe all usage).

·  Ensure implementation of all rules and regulations regarding electronics.

·  Ensure all items that could be utilized as a weapon (razors, scissors, sharp objects, etc.) are accounted for and properly secured at all times except when in approved usage.

·  Supervise and document resident’s preapproved phone calls.

·  Supervise visitation per DHR’s approval and document all concerns.

·  Provide transportation to appointments, outings, school, etc. via agency vehicles, unless otherwise instructed and approved by supervisor.

·  Perform basic clerical activities related to daily operations of the program.

·  Document activities and incidents as required per procedure/protocol.

·  Complete necessary reports when needed or directed.

·  Prepare meals and snacks utilizing the designated meal schedule and ensure that correct proportions are served.

·  Complete daily food production records.

·  Store all food according to health department standards and agency procedures.

·  Supervise and document residents taking medication as prescribed and administered by designated medical professionals.

·  Ensure that Medicaid log is signed daily by each resident.

Job Qualifications:

·  High school diploma or GED required, college degree preferred.

·  Valid Alabama driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

·  Valid CPR certification.

·  Valid CPI certification.

·  Background checks.

·  Drug screens.

·  Professional references.

·  Valid physical health screening to include tuberculosis skin test and all immunizations.

Job Requirements:

·  Abide by agency policies and procedures.

·  Abide by State of Alabama Department of Human Resources Minimum Standards of Care for Residential Child Care Facilities.

·  Follow all Health Department regulations.

·  Follow all safety and security protocol, including but not limited to: weather plans, building evacuations, medical quarantines, locking of all cabinets, offices, food storage, etc., setting security system, etc.

·  Maintain and provide documentation of employee qualifications as mandated (ongoing training, health physicals, and etc.).

·  Attend staff meetings, trainings, and in-service meetings as scheduled.

·  Follow the employee schedule for shift coverage with no changes unless approved in advance by supervisor.

·  Remain on-site for the duration of all scheduled shifts unless approved by supervisor (i.e. provide own meals/snacks for meal/break periods)

·  Provide medical excuses for all non-scheduled sick leave immediately upon return to duty.

·  Fulfill obligations of all assigned shifts until relief employee arrives to assume duties of shift or until excused by supervisor.

·  Model appropriate behaviors to include but not limited to: integrity, dependability, respect, communication, honesty, problem-solving, and etc.

·  Support the work of the team by refraining from gossip and negativity.

·  Work diligently on Medicaid billing documentation during designated time periods.

·  Submit at least minimum assigned documentation for Medicaid Billing on or before the designated time and date due.

·  Refrain from using personal cell phones.

·  Refrain from using agency phones for personal business except in cases of emergency.

·  Report all personal legal charges/arrests within 24 hours of incident.

·  Maintain confidentiality of residents at all times.

·  Maintain employee dress code at all times.

·  Alert all major issues to on-call staff per protocol and follow directives.

·  Respect residents and employees by refraining from imposing upon and/or condemning others regarding personal values (religion, sexual orientation, etc.).

·  Provide minimum of 2 weeks notice of resignation to supervisor. Follow directives of supervisor regarding time and plan to inform other employees and residents of impending departure.

·  Complete all other supervisor directives as assigned.
