Below is the purpose and objectives of SOKS Camp, as well as commitments that leaders are asked to sign.
It is the responsibility of summer directors to help church leaders and groups fulfill the purpose, emphasize the objectives, and stand firmly on their commitments.

The purpose of SOKS camp is to to provide an exciting and educationally enriching summer opportunity through games, activities, learning, and hands-on experiences for children who may not have such an opportunity otherwise. SOKS Camp forges partnerships between area churches/organizations and a community-housing complex to meet a common need of providing summer activities for children who may not otherwise have such an opportunity.
Heritage Park Apartments affirms the commitment of community entities gathering in one effort to provide fun and safe summer activities for children and youth ages 3-18 living in the complex and participating in such events. It is the desire of Heritage Park and leadership of SOKS camp to provide camp activities that achieve the following objectives:
- team building
- diversity awareness
- positive attitudes
- ability to follow directions
- clear communication
- respect for peers and leadership
- conflict resolution
- ability to apply educational distinctives
LEADER COMMITMENT
The signing of this commitment form signifies the leader’s commitment to help Heritage Park and SOKS leadership achieve these objectives through the intentional planning of games and activities that will exemplify these goals. It also provides evidence of the leader’s agreement to act in a way that is nurturing and respectful of the children/youth involved while also placing safety of the children and others as a primary need.
Desiring to serve as a leader with SOKS CAMP 2016, I commit with Heritage Park Apartments and SOKS leadership to provide the safest environment for the children/youth with whom I will work. To this end, I:
- Acknowledge that I have the affirmative character traits expected in children’s and youth workers and that I have no inclinations that would cause parental concern for the well being of a child or youth with whom I would work.
- Acknowledge that I have not been, and will not be, intentionally involved in any behavior that is unlawful and/or harmful to a child or youth.
- Will uphold an atmosphere of respect for each child and will consider the objectives mentioned above in my interactions with the children/youth
- Acknowledge that children may come from different international cultures and experiences of poverty at Heritage Park, which requires sensitivity and awareness to different situations and behaviors
- Will adhere to all SOKS camp policies and make every effort to ensure a safe and positive environment amidst all camp activities
