As part of a statewide effort to increase the achievement levels of all students in North Carolina and to address the drop-out rate, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), Division of K-12 Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, is offering a free workshop to all teachers of students in grades 6-12 and to all educators who provide support to those who need increased assistance with critical reading and writing skills. Instructional strategies in writing will be informed by the research that identifies more effective instruction in writing occurring when grammar is integrated into writing instruction and practice.

Workshop Goals:Participants will explore some of the instructional content and teaching and learning strategies that are necessary for improving students’ reading and writing skills in language and literature courses and on standardized examinations.

Agenda:

Exit at 279B.

Travel North for 9.4 miles to Fulton Street/Hillandale Road.

Exit at 15B.

Turn right at end of exit ramp ontoHillandale Road and travel 1.6 miles.

just before the traffic light at Carver Street.

OR

Travel I-40 West to the merge on ramp I-40 W/US-70/Durham.

Merge onto US-70 West at Exit 4B toward Durham, which becomes US-70 Bypass West, which becomes I-85 South/US-15 South.

Exit I-85 South/US-15 South at Exit 174 B onto Hillandale Road.

Keep right on Hillandale Road.

Look for 2107 Hillandale Road on the left.

From I-40 East/Chapel Hill:

Travel I-40 East to Highway 15-501 North/Durham.

Travel Highway 15-501 North towards Durham until Hwy 15-501 merges into I-85 North.
