CAREER TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
2017-2018
Anchorage South Rotary will award a number of vocational/technical scholarships from $500 and up in April of 2017. The Scholarships are based on current academic and vocational successes as well asfinancial need. If you are interested, please complete the steps below and mail in your application.
Who should apply?
- Graduating high school seniors and technical school students who live in Anchorage, Alaska and who have a record of successful high school work, vocational training, and/or technical work. (Students who live outside of Anchorage, Alaska, but have a parent or guardian who live in Anchorage, Alaska are also eligible.)
- Students who will be applying to any accredited community/technical school or four-year university. Examples are: welder, caregiver, culinary arts, computer technician, truck driver CDL, commercial diver, electrician, medical assistant etc.
- Students who can demonstrate a need for additional funding to complete their education.
- Preferred: Students with a particular focus on Career and Technical Education (CTE).
Steps to Apply:
- Complete the application below, which covers fall and spring terms, 2017-2018.
- Attach a cover letter describing your goals to accomplish in collegeor trade school, your progress in high school or other institutions (university, training centers, etc) and your financial need for this scholarship (i.e. costs to attend; and scholarships or other personal resources available).
- Attach your résumé (optional), letters of reference (optional),and a transcript of your high school or otherclasses(required).
- Mail your packet to Anchorage South Rotary, P. O. Box 104908, Attention Scholarship Committee Chair, Anchorage AK 99510postmarked by the deadline of April 10, 2017. You may also email your packet as an Adobe.pdf file to y the deadline of April 12, 2017 at midnight.

Selection Criteria:
Please demonstrate the following characteristics in your submission. Written or essay format is preferred, but another medium is acceptable.
REQUIRED:
- Student career goal and description of how you plan to achieve it
- Student financial need: How much will this Anchorage South Rotary CTE Scholarship make adifference in successfully pursuing the chosen career? How much can the student rely on family or other streams of funds for pursuing his/her career?
- High school transcript: attendance; class grades;total grade point average.
OPTIONAL (highly recommended):
- Have you participated in Community Service outside the School?
- "Service Above Self"is a Rotary Internationalprinciple in volunteer projects, programs or organizational affiliations.
- Have you participated in mentorship, internship and/or OJT demonstrating a desire to learn on the job abouta career track?
- Are you involved in clubs, sports, and other activities beyond minimum classroom requirements?
- Job history: dates, job title(s), name of company/organization.
- Please submit written letters of reference (no longer than one page in length)from three individuals to assist the Selection Team in evaluating the student's suitabilityfor the Anchorage South Rotary CTE Scholarship.
