Cary Women’s Giving Network awards $17,000 to four area nonprofits
The Cary Women’s Giving Network awarded $17,000 to four area nonprofits that on Tuesday, according to Sheila Ogle and Jennifer Robinson, co-founders of the local giving circle, which is a fund of the Cary Community Foundation, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF).
Receiving $5,000 grants each were Inter-Faith Food Shuttle for support of their Backpack Buddies program, providing 12 local elementary school students healthy weekend meals for a whole year; The Mariposa School for Children with Autism for renovations to a parent Observation Room; and BEGINNINGS for an ongoing parent support program for parents with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. CASA (Community Alternatives for Supportive Abodes) received $2,000 for plumbing and HVAC costs at a CASA-managed property in Cary. The awards were announced April 29 at the Network’s annual luncheon, with NC State Senator Tamara Barringer and Cary Councilwoman Gale Adcock serving as keynote speakers.
Cary Women’s Giving Network members voted on recipients in a competitive grants process. Grants Committee Chair Sarah Perkins said it was a challenge this year for the membership to choose from so many excellent programs serving critical needs in the Town of Cary.
