I.PROJECT HISTORY

Built in the spring of 1975, the pool’s concrete gutter and deck had experienced continued deterioration. Over the years, the pool water depths had continued to limit the full use of the pool. The circulation system design made the pool difficult to operate and the sanitation system and potable water feed systems needed to be updated.

An aquatic venue forensic assessment was made by Pool Design Consultants during the winter of 2009-2010. That assessment included core drill and testing of the pool structure, pressure testing the circulation system, close examination of the concrete/tile gutter system and related edge conditions. A proposed list of work needing to be done was followed by budget figures for repair/renovation of the items on that list. Additionally the client directed that pool replacement figures were developed for review and comparison to the repair/renovation costs. Following the comparison and other discussions, the client commissioned a pool in a pool replacement using the existing pool shell as the starting point, a partial deck replacement, a complete deck coating, adding a pool slide and generally upgrading the pool facility to meet the latest NCDENR rules, ABA/ADA regulations and ASME/ASTM swimming pool standards

The project went out to bid in the late fall with the contract being awarded in January 2011. Following commissioning and client training the facility was open for use Memorial Day weekend 2011.
