THE ASIAN HARP CHAMBER
COMPETITION 2015
The Asian Harp Ensemble Competition 2015 is organized by Rave Harps Singapore for the purpose of supporting and encouraging chamber works with harps.
Organization
Rave Harps is where harpists converge and share their joys of playing the harps. Rave Harps has organized many successful events from Harp Fests to the world first harp musical – PLUCK! This year, HarpFest celebrates Chamber music and organizes it’s firstAsian Harp Chamber Competition 2015.
The Harp Chamber Competition is in two categories, Junior and Youth.

PRELIMINARY ROUND
Please submit by 15 May 2015 a video recording of an excerpt of your competing repertoire (not exceeding 4 minutes). Submissions can be by email or youtube link to the organizer at
Finalists will receive an email by 31 May 2015. All decisions are final.
4 September 2015 (Friday)
FINAL ROUND -
Finals will be held on 4 September 2015 (Friday) at University Cultural Center, National University Singapore. Finals are open to public.
6th September 2015 (Sunday)
GALA CONCERT – First Prize Winners from both Junior and Youth Category are invited to perform in the Gala Concert of HarpFest V at the University Cultural Center Theater.

COMPETITION RULES
Qualifications
The competition is open to local and all Asian nationalities harpists and musicians who meet the requirements set by the organizer.
Instrumentation
(i) The competition permits both lever and pedal harps.
(ii) The ensemble groups must have a minimum of 2 members to a maximum of 5 members.
(iii) Each competing group MUST include at least one to a maximum of 4 harps in its combination.
(iv) All instruments including vocals are allowed EXCEPT Piano and Organs due to logistic reasons. (If in doubt, please inquire with the organizers)
Category and Age Limit
(i) Junior Category: competing members cannot exceed 12 years old as of 4th September 2015.
(ii) Youth Category: competing members cannot exceed 20 years old as of 4th September 2015.
* Multiple Entries: Members of the group can submit to a maximum of two applications if they wish.
Repertoire & Duration
Ensembles are allowed to present one to two pieces as long as it is within the time limit
(i) Junior Category: Free Choice. If the music is arranged or transcribed, please submit the scores to the organizer for approval.
The total performance time including interval between pieces should not exceed 5 minutes.
(ii) Youth Category: Competing pieces should be from the standard Harp Chamber Repertoire. Any transcriptions should seek organiser’s approval by submitting the scores. Within each programme, it is permissibleto leave out repeats and it is also acceptable to make up to two'cuts' (missing out a part of the printed music, to keep to time limit) as long as they are not to the detriment of the music.
The total performance time including interval between pieces should be between 8-10 minutes.
Harps and Other Music Instruments
Contestants should bring their own instruments for the finals.
Camac Harps can be provided to overseas harp competitors and local competitors upon request. Please indicate in the application form. Practice time on the Performance Harps will be according to the time table set by the organizer.
Performance Order
The order of performance of the ensemble will be balloted by the organizers.
All Judges decision is final.
Correspondence
All correspondence will only be with the main contact person of each group.

Junior Category First Prize – S$500 Cash, Trophy and Certificate
Second Prize – S$200 Cash ,Trophy and Certificate
3rd Prize – Trophy & Certificate
Youth CategoryFirst Prize – S$1000 Cash,Trophy and Certificate
Second Prize – S$800 Cash, Trophy and Certificate
3rd Prize – Trophy and Certificate
* Should there be a tie, the Prize will be shared between the two groups.
All first prize winners will be invited to perform during the Gala Performance on 6th September 2015.
