Bolts take two of three from Otters

The Windy City ThunderBolts scored three runs in the decisive fifth inning, beating the Evansville Otters 6-3.

Evansville got on the board first on an RBI groundout off the bat of Adam Kampsen to go up 1-0. WindyCity responded in the top half of the next inning as Dan Jordan led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt by Gilberto Mejia. Guillermo Martinez came up and roped a double down the leftfield line to score Jordan. Three batters later, Bryan Cook singled through the right side, scoring Martinez and the ThunderBolts had the first lead of the night at 2-1.

After an Otters run in the bottom of the third tied the game at 2-2, the Bolts broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning on just two hits as a hit batsman, a walk and an error conspired against Evansville. The Bolts would keep things going in the sixth as Gilberto Mejia led off with a triple. After Damian Walcott was hit by a pitch, Vinnie Scarduzio grounded out to second, scoring Mejia and pushing the WindyCity lead to 6-2.

Evansville plated an unearned run in the seventh, but that was as close as they would get as the bullpen once again did their job, as the quartet of Nick Hall, Stephen Flake, Matt Jernstad and Billy Petrick allowed just that one run on one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

Dustin Pease (5-1) earned the win for WindyCity going 5.1 innings allowing two runs on six hits. Billy Petrick got the final four outs for his second save in as many days. Calen Sutton (0-2) took the loss for Evansville giving up five runs in 3.1 innings.

The ThunderBolts return home Saturday when the WindyCity gives you the Best Bang for Nine Bucks with a postgame fireworks extravaganza.
