Parent / The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a national family civics model, with a 20-year track record in increasing civic engagement of parents by providing parents the knowledge and tools to expand parental involvement in local decision-making.
The next PLTI course will start in Fall 2015 and will include:
- Becoming familiar with city, school, county, state, and federal law
- Understanding public policy and budgets
- Assessing and defining community problems
- Creating new networks between parents of different education levels, economic levels, social backgrounds, and geography.
PLTI does not endorse candidates.
How PLTI works:
- 20-week class, starts in the fall of 2015 and ends April 2016.
- Using a tested curriculum, the Institute has graduated 58 parents (18 in 2013, 19 in 2014, 21 in 2015) from Rochester, Greece, Brighton, and Irondequoit.
- The class is taught by team of 3 credentialed, high quality facilitators; community leaders and experts visit as guest speakers.
- Individual projects are developed and completed by each participant
- Parents and caregivers of all income levels, education levels, and race & ethnicities from the Rochester, Brighton, Irondequoit, and Greece school districts.
- Parents who are interested apply. Every applicant receives an interview.
- Family dinner & child care is provided for children ages 3-12 years; transportation is provided as needed.
- There is an active PLTI Alumni group; support is provided to graduates.
