3/3/2012 The Association of Fire Districts – The Scholarship

3 $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to NY State High School Seniors who will graduate in June of 2012. Student must be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York and must reside within New York State. To apply:

ü  Student must be continuing their education at either a two or four year college

ü  Awards will go to students who have and will be entering a career of service to the community (fire service related major, nursing, social work, health related services, teaching, librarian, etc.)

ü  Financial need will be a factor

ü  Complete 2 teacher recommendations, 1 guidance counselor endorsement, 1 personal reference and 1 firematic recommendation along with your current transcript

ü  Copy of parent/guardians last Income Tax Return with a copy of the W-2

ü  Applications must be typed

3/4/2012 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Award Program

ü  The SAMMY 2012 Award Program recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools throughout the U.S. You could be one of the 25 winners to receive:

ü  A $7,500 college scholarship from the Milk Processor Education Program

ü  An additional $7,500 will be donated to the winners favorite charity

ü  An invitation for winners, parents and/or guardians to attend a SAMMY 2011 weekend at the Disney World Complex in Orlando, FL in June 2012. An opportunity to be the star in a milk Mustache ad in USA Today

ü  All high school seniors are invited to apply

3/5/2012 CW Post Scholarship Portfolio Review Day

CW Post’s faculty of professional artists will review your portfolio. Students with outstanding portfolios will be eligible for a $20,000 scholarship – up to $5,000 a year for four years. To apply:

This is an international leadership development program for girls entering their sophomore or junior year in high school in the fall. The cost for the program is $2,000 not including travel expenses to and from the program (Hyde Park, NY). Financial assistance will be provided to those with a demonstrated need. 3/9/2012 Fashion Institute of Technology – Presidential Scholars Program

Students interested in attending FIT should:

ü  Presidential Scholars are extended special privileges: priority registration, housing in one of FIT’s residence halls, and an annual merit stipend of $500.

ü  Competitive admission is based on essay, SAT scores, letters of recommendation, class rank, and high school GPA.

3/9/2012 Christian Life Center – The American Heritage Scholarship

ü  Two $1,500 scholarships, will be awarded to graduating seniors, one male, one female, for Long Island students whose lives exemplify genuine character and promote the scriptural values upon which our country was founded.

ü  Up to four $250 High Honorable Mention scholarships may also be awarded regardless of gender. The application is available online at www.ichristianc.org.

3/9/2012 Junior Welfare League Youth in Philanthropy Award

The Junior Welfare League of Huntington is a local fundraising organization whose function is to assist the needy of our community. This $500 award is given to one female senor who embodies all that our organization believes in and strives for; a sense of community, a giving spirit, compassion and a willingness to assist t hose in need. To apply:

ü  Fill out the application form which is available in the Career Counseling Center on the 2nd floor.

3/11/2012 L.I. Teachers Benevolent Fund Scholarship

This scholarship is for seniors who will be attending a post-secondary institution on a full time basis. The maximum award is $500. Criteria for this award will be based on the student’s academic achievement, SAT scores, class rank or grade point average. To apply:

Challenges and Opportunities”

Columbia University’s Office of Diversity College of Physicians & Surgeons is offering a program on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 7:30am – 1:30pm in the Alumni Auditorium on the 1st floor of the Black Building located at 650 West 168th Street at Ft. Washington Avenue in Manhattan. They encourage students interested in applying to Medical School to attend this program. Admission is FREE and a continental breakfast will be served. 3/15/2012 The Tenth Annual Peierls Scholarship

ü  An annual scholarship of $1,000 is available to high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in the professional theatre and will be continuing his/her theatrical education on a college or conservatory level.

ü  Students are required to submit a completed application and participate in an audition and an interview.

3/15/2012 Walmart Foundation Scholarship Programs

Walmart is offering several different scholarships: Walmart Associate Scholarship – a $3,000 college scholarship available to Walmart associates or dependents of associates who are graduating seniors with at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA and demonstrated financial need; The Walmart Higher Reach Scholarship – provides a college scholarship up to $3,000 to Walmart associates who have been out of school for at least one year; To apply:

3/15/2012 Hispanic Scholarship Fund

There are over 4000 scholarships ranging from $1,000 - $10,000 in all fields of study. These scholarships are available to students who: at least half Hispanic background, a US citizen or permanent resident, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA. To apply:

3/15/2012 Tony Alt Memorial Foundation Scholarship

ü  This scholarship is available to a student attending HSW, Camden High School, Ossining High School or St. Raymond’s High School for boys who lives in a single-parent family.

ü  Student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

ü  Student must submit a transcript.

ü  Applicant must fill out the application form (available in the Career Counseling Center) which requires financial information.

ü  This is a $2,500 scholarship. 3 awards will be granted each year. Awards may be renewed for up to 3 additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned.

3/16/2012 Kohl’s Cares for Kids Scholarship

$2,000 store level winners will receive a $50 Kohl’s gift card. More than 190 regional winners will be awarded $1,000 scholarships toward post-secondary education. Ten national winners will receive $5,000 scholarships and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on their behalf. To apply:

ü  You must be 6-18 years old

ü  Describe the person’s actions in detail that are above and beyond what is normally expected of a child of their age with regard to helping make their communities a better place.

ü  Volunteer efforts should have made a positive impact on others and occurred in the last 12 months.

ü  The activity cannot be performed solely to benefit a family member.

ü  Winners are selected based on the project chosen, the benefits of the project and the actual outcome of the project.

ü  Nominees will be divided into two groups 6-12 and 13-18.

3/16/2012 Hubertus W. V. Wellems Scholarship for Males

This is a $2,000 award given to an African American male majoring in one of the following fields: Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematical Sciences. Applicant must be:

ü  A U.S. citizen and be applying to or accepted at an accredited college in the U.S.

ü  A male majoring in either Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematical Sciences

ü  An undergraduate applicant must be a full-time student

ü  A graduating senior must possess a grade point average of 2.5 (C+) on a 4.0 system

ü  Applicant must demonstrate financial need based on a particular scale

ü  Prepare 2 letters of recommendation

ü  Provide a valid transcript

ü  Provide financial verification

3/16/2012 Lillian & Samuel Sutton Education Scholarship

This award is $1,000 award given to an African American male or female who will be an Education Major and :

ü  Is a High School Senior who has a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 system

ü  NAACP membership and participation is desirable

ü  Provide a recent official transcript and evidence of full time enrollment

ü  Provide a cop of the NAACP membership card if you are a member

ü  Two letters of recommendation from teachers in your area of specialization

ü  Essay – must be directly uploaded to the online application

3/16/2012 Agnes Jones Jackson Scholarship

This $1,500 award will be given to a Current Member or an Applying Member of the NAACP. Applicant must:

Submit a copy of their NAACP membership card or application to verify member

ü  Be a High School Senior with a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 system.

ü  Come to the Career Counseling Center on the 2nd floor for an application.

3/17/2012 Zonta International’s Young Woman in Public Affairs Award for 2012

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization made up of executives and professional women of diverse backgrounds whose purpose is to improve the social economic and political status of women in our community and throughout the world. Zonta has been able to provide assistance to women who are hungry ill, abused or unfortunate, as well as to their children and families.

ü  Zonta has this award for a female high school senior who represents Zonta ideals.

ü  To be eligible the application must be received by March 31.

ü  The winner will receive a $1,000 prize and then becomes eligible also for more National and International Zonta Scholarship Awards.

ü  Applications are available in the Career Counseling Center on the 2nd floor.

3/17/2012 Bill Borman Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund provides scholarship money to openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) students on Long Island who have made significant contributions to the furthering of LGBT rights and/or HIV/AIDS awareness. To apply:

ü  Come to the Career Counseling Center for an application

ü  Applicant must have a track record of involvement in lesbian gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and or HIV/AIDS organizations or causes

ü  Demonstrate a commitment to advancing social just for LGBT people or people living with AIDS

ü  Graduate in June 2012

ü  Expect to matriculate as an incoming full-time freshman in the fall of 2012 at a 2 or 4 year college

3/18/2012 Dix Hills Basketball Association Scholarship 12TH GRADE STUDENTS

The official scholarship judges will award $2,000 in total scholarships. Winners will be judged on the basis of secondary school records, community service and the quality of the submitted essay. To apply:
