Some things to expect:

In class we will learn Spanish vocabulary words and apply them in complete sentences, expressions and short stories (TPRS). We will also learn a little bit of geography and some cultural beliefs and practices of several Spanish-speaking countries, in addition to singing songs, using some internet resources and reading books for extra practice.

Daily learning activities for all classes can include aural (listening) comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and presentations in Spanish. You also will be assigned some projects during various units.

Participation is extremely important for success. So, come in each day with an attitude ready for learning. Your outlook and willingness to work with everyone makes a huge difference in our classroom learning community.

I look forward to a productive and rewarding year with each of you! Keep in mind that learning any language requires practice, flexibility, persistence and, at times, making mistakes.

I wish you a successful and fulfilling school year.

Sincerely,

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am glad to have your son/daughter in Spanish class this year. Learning another language is a very useful and important skill to have, and I believe that all students can learn. This will be my 15th year teaching Spanish. It is my commitment to provide your child with instruction and support so that he/she will succeed in this course. With help from you this will be easier to accomplish. Please, contact me about any questions, concerns or even good news to share.

Read the course description and let me know if you have any questions. Fill out the form below and have your son/daughter return it to me by ______. Provide as much information as you feel comfortable in sharing so that I can easily contact you as needed and so that we can maintain communication throughout the school year. I also recommend that you get a Skyward account with the school so that you can stay updated with your son/daughter’s grades and attendance.

I also have a webpage through the school district, where you can find my teacher page at www.nthurston.k12.wa.us/riverridge. My wishes to you and son/daughter for a successful and fulfilling school year.
