Young Life Winter Weekend December 5-7, 2008

Leader Scoop Sheet

Dear Partners in Christ:

I hope you are as excited as we are for the upcoming WyldLife Weekend. Many have been praying and working hard so that you can share Jesus Christ with your kids. Like last year, our guiding Scriptures for the weekend are:

When I (Jesus) am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself. John 12:32

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23

As an assignment team, we will create an environment that proclaims the crucified/risen Jesus Christ by modeling the character of Christ, praying, honoring God’s word, loving others, and excellently serving in our specific roles. We pray and trust the Lord will use this environment to draw all kids and adults closer to Him. Please join us in this preparation, prayer, and faithful expectation.

Please review the following notes and respond accordingly to ensure proper preparation by all.

Work Crew

  • ReservationsWe are full and can no longer accept work crew requests. If you have already reserved Work Crew spots for the weekend, please e-mail Carly the first and last names of your kids.Do not submit names that are not 100% committed.
  • Note: we are not using the misnomer “summer staff” to describe those who help outside with rides, etc. Instead we are using the general term “work crew” to describe all those helping both inside in dining hall and outside. Accordingly, you need to submit names of all according to this policy. You may request that certain people are placed on the “outdoor work crew,” and we will seek to accommodate these requests.
  • Discipleship We all seework crew as not only a way to serve our camp but as a discipleship opportunity for work crew members. We see them as fellow ambassadors for Christ who proclaim Christ in word and deed to campers. So, work crew are expected to be growing followers of Christ who are eager to serve; they will be led accordingly through devotions, prayer, and behavior expectations. Do NOT send people that do not fit with this expectation.
  • ArrivalWork crew need to bring appropriate clothing and shoes, Bibles, notebooks and immediately report to the dining hall by Friday between 7-8 PM.

Administration

  • Numbers reporting #1 Please submit your estimated numbers (along with any special food requests) to by noon on Thursday, November 20. You will be financially accountable for these numbers. Please make it clear the area name and number that your group(s) represent. Also submit any special food requests at this time.
  • Numbers reporting #2/ Housing Request Submit your updated numbers/housing request to Carlyat latest Noon onThursday, December 4. Please break down these into cabins, noting guy/girl breakdown and leader names. A 1:5leader to kidratiois best. If you do not submit housing by Thursday December 4, we will assume you are not bringing any kids.
  • ArrivalPlease plan on arriving at camp between 7:30 and 9:00 pm. Please work extra travel time for traffic into your planning. Make sure kids have eaten dinner before they get to camp. You will be greeted by head leaders when you arrive. We will collect all electronics (phones, IPODS, etc) so please be ready as you pull in to give them in a bin to head leaders. We do this so kids aren’t distracted by them over the weekend and so that they can’t be stolen while rooms are unattended. (We suggest using zip lock bags and sharpie markers to separate/label electronics within bin.)Loading luggage more towards the driver side and putting girls luggage towards front makes unloading most efficient.
  • Departure will be 11:30 AM Sunday.
  • Payment & W-Form. Please bring a completed “W-Form” to camp (available at staff.younglife.org) and give it to Bryan Reaumeby breakfast Saturday. Payment will be processed via YL internal transfer. If you are a non-YL group, please make arrangements with your local staff person and/or LakeChampion to submit payment.
  • Medical & Permission Forms. Please make sure you have a completed Parental Consent for Medical Treatment including insurance information). The trip leader will hold on to these forms throughout the weekend.

Proclamation/Spiritual Leadership

  • The primary purpose of this weekend is to introduce kids to Jesus Christ. All philosophy schedule, service, and spiritual content is geared to this end. We expect you to prepare your leaders to do the same. While every moment is an opportunity to share Christ with your kids, special preparation should be considering when preparing your team to maximize the tools of Club, Cabin Time, and 1 on 1 conversations. Contact Bryan Reaume () for further thoughts on this.
  • We expect your leaders to maximize their time with kids at camp. We expect them to lead in excitement, adventure, laughter, and fun, drawing on all resources to point campers to Jesus Christ.

Schedule (see complete schedule on page 4)

  • Schedule Change from “Typical” Weekend: We have tweaked the schedule from what you may expect on a high school weekend. We feel that the schedule below gives leaders more time to have deep discussions and process the talks with kids. Therefore, you will see that cabin times will immediately follow the talks, and that club will be prior to dinner on Saturday to give leaders the entire Sat. evening to be with their kids. Please make the most of these opportunities.
  • Leader Expectations/Meetings. We only have one Leader Meeting scheduled Saturday morning. You may want to add additional time to pray and process with your leaders. We are trusting trip leaders to ensure all leaders are properly trained and prepped for this weekend. Contact Bryan Reaume () if help is desired with this.
  • Saturday Morning/Messy Clothes Kids and leaders will get really messy during the games on Saturday morning. Please bring extra clothes for when kids forget. We have adjusted the schedule to ensure adequate time to come to lunch clean!
  • Saturday Afternoon Free Time Please come prepared and with a plan to be with and enjoy free time with your kids. Optional tournaments will be offered. Hot-tub will be open. The high ropes course and screamer will be opened, but spots are limited. Please bring cards, board games, or anything else that would facilitate this time with your kids (plan for the worstweather-wise).
  • Saturday Night Variety Show We will host a variety show starring kids (and possibly leaders along with kids). Acts can feature dancing, singing, or other “varieties.” We will explain this process at leader’s meeting. For now, please maximize this opportunity by advertising/encouraging it to kids so they can bring appropriate props/equipment (if necessary, you can let them know that we will dig into needed electronics that have been collected) and by helping the assignment team ensure all acts are entirely appropriate. Please note that this is a “variety” show and talent is not a precondition for participation.
  • Area MeetingsWe will provide time on Sunday for area meetings. We encourage you to use this opportunity, in addition to leading your kid spiritually for a final time, to sell summer camp and any other upcoming events. You should have flyers ready to give parents when you get off bus at home.
  • Clubs will featuremusic, skits, large group mixers/games, and of course talks. Please be ready to lead in excitement and energy and to provide names of kids to program team to be in skits.
  • Adult Guests We believe that this weekend will be a great showcase for WyldLife camping and ministry in general. Please encourage all adults who are thinking of joining you in any way in Young Life to attend this weekend as adult guests. Contact Carly Funkhouser () if you have adults you would like to invite (right now we only have 4 rooms left!).
