Title / Produce isometric, oblique, and planometric drawings for graphic communication
Level / 1 / Credits / 4
Purpose / People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify, interpret, and recognise the use of, paraline drawing systems; select the type of paraline drawing to be used, and prepare equipment for the task; construct the pictorial drawing using the selected paraline system; and verify completed paraline drawing and modify where necessary.
Classification / Design > Design - Graphic Communication
Available grade / Achieved

Explanatory notes

1 This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning Media Wellington, 1995).

2 Coverage of all three paraline drawing systems - isometric, oblique, and planometric - is required for each outcome.

3 This unit standard is limited to simple forms and shapes consisting of one or two components drawn to common scales. Receding axes remain full scale with circular forms in oblique limited to true shape planes. Dimensioning of paraline drawings is limited to major dimensions using appropriate conventions and standards.

4 Drawings must comply with standards convention NZ/AS1100.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Identify, interpret, and recognise the use of, paraline drawing systems.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Paraline drawing constructions are identified, and described in terms of their differences.

1.2 Application and/or description of information provided in a paraline drawing demonstrates that the system has been interpreted.

1.3 Paraline drawing uses and advantages, in relation to other systems of drawing, are identified.

Range other systems of drawing - orthographic projection, freehand sketching.

Outcome 2

Select the type of paraline drawing to be used, and prepare equipment for the task.

Evidence requirements

2.1 Paraline drawing system selected is the most suitable in terms of the design and subject requirements.

2.2 Selection of graphics equipment and media, and preparation for use enable the task to be completed.

Outcome 3

Construct the pictorial drawing using a selected paraline system.

Evidence requirements

3.1 Viewing direction and drawing axes are suitable for the subject in terms of view.

3.2 Methods applied enable the drawing to be constructed under the selected system.

3.3 Final paraline drawing complies with the principles and practice of the selected system.

3.4 The standards convention is applied to the selected system where appropriate.

Range linework, dimensions, titling, perspective.

Outcome 4

Verify completed paraline drawing and modify where necessary.

Evidence requirements

4.1 Details of the completed paraline drawing are checked against the design and/or presentation requirements, and any necessary modifications are identified.

4.2 Modifications are made, where necessary, to meet the design and/or presentation requirements.

Please note

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
