First Sergeant Norbert S. Portis

First Sergeant Norbert S. Portis grew up in Toomsuba, Mississippi. There he graduated from Southeast Lauderdale High School in 1992. He entered the Army in 1992 as a Transportation Specialist (Truck Driver).
First Sergeant Portis is currently the First Sergeant of Alpha Company, Warrior Transition Battalion in Alaska. He recently served at Alpha Company 725th Brigade Support Battalion (ABN), 4th Brigade (ABN), 25th Infantry Division during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as the unit First Sergeant. He was previously assigned as a Senior Drill Sergeant at Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment Fort Knox, Kentucky. Prior to that, First Sergeant Portis served as the Battalion Transportation Logistic NCO/ Tasking NCO with the Headquarters 782nd Main Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division(ABN) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While there he served in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 1. He also served as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant while assigned to Delta Company, 782nd Main Support Battalion (ABN). He also served as a HET Driver while assigned to Delta Company, 123rd Main Support Battalion, 1st Armor Division in Dexheim Germany. Also while in Germany and assigned to the 3rd Corps Support Command he also served as a Chauffeur for the Commanding General. He also served within the 46th Corps Support Group, 1st Corps Support Command at Fort Bragg as a driver.
A graduate of the Army Senior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course and Warrior Leaders Course, Army Drill Sergeant School, the Pathfinder, Airborne Course, Army Jumpmaster Course, Combative Program, Total Army Instructor Course, National Training Center Observer Controller Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course and WTU Cadre Course.
First Sergeant Portis awards include the Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge,Broze star Medal(1 oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal(4th oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal(8th oak leaf cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal(5th award),National Defense Service Medal(1st service star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon(# 3), Overseas Service Ribbon(2nd oak leaf cluster), United Nation Medal(2nd Service Star) and the Global War on Terrorism service Medal.
First Sergeant Portis has two children.
