Part 1: Course Planning Form

Instructions for Student

You may complete a course planning form prior to embarking on a semester study abroad program. You are responsible for meeting with the relevant faculty to ensure that courses you intend to take while abroad fit your studies at Yale-NUS.

Upon completion of your semester abroad, you will attend a credit transfer consultation session with CIPE to receive a credit transfer form that you have to complete and submit. Yale-NUS and CIPE reserve the right to determine the number of credits transferred for study abroad courses.

Students are expected to take a full load during a semester abroad. Successful completion of a full load of courses for one semester will earn you 20 MCs of Yale-NUS credit. If you are facing issues with taking a full load, please approach CIPE to discuss further.

For a host institution with a trimester system, students who complete a full load for one trimester will earn 14 MCs and those who complete a full load for two trimesters will earn 20 MCs.

For Faculty approval

CIPE recommends that students be flexible in their course planning for study abroad. Students may list up to seven possible courses to account for shopping periods, course cancellation or timetable clashes, or other factors.

Please secure approval from the Head of Studies for courses you wish to count toward your major and minor. No approval is needed for courses you wish to count toward your electives unrelated to major and minor.

In the event that there is no Yale-NUS course equivalent, please specify which type of major/minor requirement the course is fulfilling.

CIPE will determine the number of MCs at Yale-NUS to be transferred for each course.
