DESERT STORM RACING THUNDERS INTO LAKE HAVASU CITY

Thrilling Boat Racing And Poker Run Returns To Arizona, Apr. 27-30, 2011

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (April 5, 2011) –Lake Havasu City, the Arizona desert lake destination south of Las Vegas and Hoover Dam, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year, and for the 13th straight year LakeRacer LLC is bringing the fastest, meanest performance speedboats on water to the exotic beauty of this oasis-like location on the Colorado River.

The Desert Storm Poker Run & Shootout, featuring top racers competing at speeds of 188 mph-plus in speedboats valued at upwards of $1.5 million, comes to Lake Havasu City from April 27-30, 2011, hosted by The Nautical Inn Resort (nauticalinn.com).

An estimated 16,000 racers and spectators are expected for this, Lake Havasu City’s biggest event of the year. The action begins Apr. 27 as Lake Racer and the Platinum Powerboat Club present the second annual Desert Storm “Puttin’ on the Wish,” benefitting the Arizona Chapter of Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Havasu For Youth Organization. Rides on the boats will be given for a charitable donation, and an open house party at Oregon Custom Marine with beer and bratwurst will follow the event.

Spectators can get up close and personal with the boats at the Main Street Boat Show and Street Party starting at noon on Apr. 28. McCulloch Boulevard will be closed as participants and sponsors display their boats; registration will open that night for the poker run.

The poker run begins Friday morning, Apr. 29, at The Nautical Inn with a boat parade through the London Bridge channel, card stations, a helicopter photo opportunity and a catered lunch at The Nautical Inn. About 175 boats will be vying for a $20,000 jackpot.

The Desert Storm Shootout starts off on Saturday, Apr. 30 in Thompson Bay and runs two miles south on the Arizona side of the lake. Spectators lining Rotary Park Beach can watch as the fastest boat in the west is selected.

An awards party will be hosted at the Nautical Resort Golf Course afterward with cocktails, dinner and the announcement of winners from the poker run.

London Bridge Resort (londonbridgeresort.com) invites visitors to stay close to the action and rent boats and personal watercraft (PWC) at the on-site marina to enjoy the action on the lake and watch the speedboat races.

Desert Storm 2011 Poker Run and Shootout is presented by LakeRacer and Teague Custom Marine. For more information, log onto lakeracerllc.comor call 602 863 3713.
