Travel into the area:

Ephraim is a small town in Sanpete county in central Utah, located approximately 125 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. Those driving to Utah from Arizona or California should take I-15 north to I-70. Proceed east on I-70 to Salina; then take US Hwy 89 from Salina north into Ephraim. Those arriving from the north or flying into Salt Lake City should take I-15 south to the Spanish Fork/US Hwy 6 exit. Proceed east through Spanish Fork along US Hwy 6 into Spanish Fork Canyon. Continue east through the canyon approximately 9 miles until you reach the junction for US Hwy 89. Proceed south on Hwy 89 through Mount Pleasant into Ephraim. For those traveling from Colorado, take I-70 west into Salina and proceed northward on US Hwy 89.

Utah Street Coordinates:

Finding your way around Utah towns and cities is not difficult once you understand that 100 South or 100 North usually means one block south or one block north, respectively, from Center Street. At the same time, 100 East or 100 West usually means one block east or one block west, respectively, from Main Street. (Center Street and Main Street usually intersect in the central part of town). This applies to Ephraim.

Directions to the Great Basin Environmental Education Center:

The Great Basin Environmental Education Center is accessed by taking 400 South Street (UT Hwy 29) in Ephraim east to Ephraim Canyon. You will travel approximately 10 miles east of town on a well maintained gravel road to the GBEEC.

Housing:

Approximately 40 total beds (bunks with mattresses only) are available at the Great Basin Environmental Education Center. Ratesare $25 per person per night. Information on other motels is below. Please see for a comprehensive lodging list.

Campgrounds and RV:

Lake Hill is a National Forest Campground located about 4 miles west of the GBEEC along UT Hwy 29. It offers limited RV, tent and group sites with drinking water and toilets. Carter’s Campground, located at 150 West 1000 South, Mt. Pleasant, 435-851-1339 offers 23 sites with full RV hookups plus some tent spaces. Field Trips:

Field trips are planned for Friday July 21st. There will be separate butterfly trips for observation/photography and collecting Friday afternoon as well as a blacklighting moth trip Friday night. Registration for these trips is listed on a separate form and requires a liability release that must be submitted to Vernon Evans—see field trip form for address--by no later than June 10th. These trips will be filled on a first-come basis.We cannot guarantee that there will be sufficient space for everyone although we will work hard to do so. Box lunches will be available at the cost of $6 for all field participants, but participants are responsible for their own provisions—sunscreen, water, etc.

A post-meeting trip is planned to El Salvador. Those who attend the Pacific Slope Meeting will be offered a discount. Please contact John Masters at Travel Quest or more information.
