Tips for Scholarships:

·  Read through this scholarship newsletter and note any scholarships for which you may qualify.

·  Some scholarships will have an on-line application, others may be available in the Scholarship Drawer in the School Counseling Office.

·  Some scholarships will require a transcript - 10 school days are required to process a transcript request.

Futures in Aerospace Scholarship – two $2,000 scholarships are available to high school seniors who intend to pursue a study in engineering or the physical or applied sciences pertinent to aerospace. Hanover Writers Club – a $500 scholarship is available to a Virginia high school senior showing promise in the craft of writing. For more information and an application, go to www.hanoverwriters.org/2011-college-scholarship. Deadline: April 15, 2011.

Chesapeake District of Civitan International – scholarships ranging between $1,000 and $1,500 are available to students based on academics, extra-curricular activities, and financial need. Applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: February 15, 2011.

Destination Imagination – up to $10,000 in scholarships are available to students who have participated in at least one of the creative problem solving programs that Destination Imagination has sponsored. For more information, go to http://didisc.org/scholarshipshome. Deadline: February 1, 2011.

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year – numerous scholarships are available to student-athletes based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and an essay. For more information, go to www.bodybymilk.com. Deadline: March 4, 2011.

Burger King Scholars Program – numerous scholarships are available to high school seniors. For more information, go to www.haveityourwayfoundation.org/burger_king_scholars_program.html. Deadline: Jan. 10, 2011.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society – numerous scholarships are available to high school seniors who either have been diagnosed with MS themselves or have a parent/guardian with MS. For more information, please see Mrs. Brown in School Counseling.

Virginia PTA Scholarship – scholarships are available to high school seniors planning to enter teaching or other youth-serving professions. Applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer in School Counseling. Deadline: March 1, 2011.

Marybeth Graff Scholarship Fund – scholarship is intended to recognize a well-rounded HCPS high school senior who intends to pursue a career as a teacher in special education or supporting children with special needs. College Funding Group – local scholarships for local students are available at www.thecollegecompanion.com.

The Blanco Foundation – college scholarships available to students of high moral character, needing financial assistance, and seeking a career in Nursing or Education. Applications and more information available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: February 1, 2011.

Richmond West Breakfast Lions Club Scholarship – a $500/year scholarship is available for a student who plans to continue their education after high school and has at least a 2.5 GPA. Applications and more information available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by 4:00pm on April 28, 2011.

National Co-Op Scholarship Program – 155 merit scholarships are available to high school seniors. For more information, go to www.co-op.edu. Deadline: February 15, 2011.

Virginia Association for the Gifted – grants, recognitions, and scholarships available. For more information, go to www.vagifted.org.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Joshua David Swinson Memorial Scholarship – scholarships will be presented to two students will an established and documented physical, emotional, or learning disability from the greater Richmond area that plan to continue their education beyond high school. More information is available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: January 28, 2011.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund – numerous $2500 scholarships are available to high school seniors based on need, academics, community service, and writing skills. More information is available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: March 31, 2011.

Big Sun Organization - $500 scholarship is available to a student-athlete planning to attend a post-secondary institute and be involved in some sport at that institution. For more information, go to www.bigsunathletics.com. Deadline: June 23, 2011.

Henry Hecker High School Scholarship – a $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a hearing impaired high school senior who is going to pursue further education after graduating. More information is available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: May 1, 2011.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure – scholarship program to help students who would find attending college to be a significant financial burden due to the loss of a parent or guardian to breast cancer or to their own breast cancer diagnosis at age 25 or younger. VALHEN - $1,000 scholarship available to Latino students. For more information, go to www.valhen.org/news. Deadline: January 28, 2011.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program – renewable, need-based scholarship provides financial support throughout a student’s undergrad career and into graduate school for those who choose to study in one of the seven graduate disciplines: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. Army ROTC Scholarships – numerous scholarships available. For more information, go to www.goarmy.com/rotc.html

POSSESS- two $250 scholarships are available to high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.6 and are planning to major in Human Services. Application and more information are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: May 15, 2011.

SCHOOL SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS – these scholarships are for students who plan to apply to these specific colleges or universities

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON – numerous scholarships and prizes are available to prospective students. For more information, go to www.admission.udayton.edu/yourquestion/.

MID-ATLANTIC CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY – a $10,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior who exhibits outstanding character and leadership. Student must have evidence of Christian character, demonstrated leadership ability, and min. GPA of 2.5. More information is available at www.macuniversity.edu/default.aspx?mod=Article&id=1984. Deadline: April 30, 2011.

STETSON UNIVERSITY J. OLLIE EDMUNDS DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – nationally competitive, merit-based program that pays full expenses for four years. For more information, go to www.stetson.edu/edmonds.

VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP – full scholarship is available to a JRT senior interested in majoring in Engineering at VCU. Scholarship is renewable for 4 years based on successful performance in the program. More information and application are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by 4:00pm on Friday, January 21st.

VIRGINIA TECH PAMPLIN LEADER SCHOLARSHIP – a $1,000 scholarship is available to high school seniors who are planning to attend and have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. Scholarship is predicated upon achievement and potential in Academic Accomplishment, Leadership, and Service. If interested, please submit a resume to Mrs. Brown in School Counseling by 4:00 on Friday, Jan. 21st.

RADFORD UNIVERSITY’S COLLEGE OF VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS – numerous scholarships are available. For more information, visit www.radford.edu/~theatre

GLORIA WILLE BELL AND CARLOS R. BELL CHARITABLE TRUST FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF MUCHIGAN – scholarship support to forward the careers of students pursuing degrees in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or another related scientific field at the University of Michigan.
