Faculty Advisor Commitment Form

Once NWIC students complete 45 college level credits (100 level or above), each student must select a Faculty Advisor. Students are advised by a Faculty Advisor when determining which courses best meets their academic and career goals. Academic Advisors in Student Services will continue to guide students through the registration process once they have made contact with their faculty advisor and have identified the appropriate courses for their program of study. If the student has an Educational Plan on file with the Advising Department the Academic Advisors will forward all information to the Faculty Advisor.

How to select a Faculty Advisor?

Faculty Advisors should be selected based on their area of expertise (refer to Faculty Advisors list on reverse side). Students provide input in the Faculty Advisor selection process by indicating either career or educational goals or by identifying a faculty member by name. Faculty Advisors work with students from the time of application through graduation and are an important resource, helping students transition to the workforce or other higher education opportunities.

Role of Faculty Advisors:

·  Assistance in choosing proper courses for a program of study

·  Work cooperatively with student in the development of an Educational Plan

·  Assist student with internships, job opportunities, & career pathways

·  Facilitate development of professional skills related to a field of interest

·  Assist student with strategies towards Student Success
