Purpose of job:
To manage the smooth running of British Council Ethiopia’s Teaching Centre, including all finance and administration to client, customer, and Academic Manager’s satisfaction, meeting Teaching Centre quality standards.

· British Council has operated in Ethiopia since 1943 with the aim of building cultural and educational links between the Ethiopia and the UK. British Council Ethiopia operates from its Addis Ababa offices and offers a full range of British Council programmes including a Teaching Centre, Examination services, project management on behalf of other donors, and its own grant-funded projects.
· British Council Ethiopia’s Teaching Centre officially opened in April 2014. The core of the teaching business has traditionally been centred on the delivery of professional development programmes, and is now expanding to make public courses and other English language training available to individuals and organisations (e.g. NGOs, donors, government departments and the private sector) across Ethiopia;
· We work with a diverse range of partners, including national and regional government (e.g. Ministry of Education, Regional Education Bureaus, etc), international donor organisations, national / international NGOs and the private sector.

The Teaching Centre Resources Manager post will focus on Ethiopia’s Teaching Centre specifically, with some interface with the Sudan and South Sudan teaching operations.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
This post will manage the finance and administration function of the Teaching Centre (TC) at the British Council office in Addis Ababa and reports to its Academic Manager. S/he will be accountable for ensuring high quality administration and financial services to all customers and clients involved in Teaching Centre activities. The Teaching Centre Resource Manager ensures robust financial and reporting processes across all areas of TC activity. The Teaching Centre Resource Manager also plays a leading role in forming and maintaining the link between the public and the rest of our Teaching Centre staff, ensuring that the customer journey from enquiry to graduation is as smooth and positive as possible. Key duties are:
· Financial Management & Development: Ensuring - at all times- that financial management of the teaching centre is up to date and well managed in compliance with corporate financial standards (including, but not limited to, reconciliations, accruals, invoicing and debtor management, audit preparation, payroll, budget monitoring, cash flow, procurement); developing and managing robust financial reporting across all areas of Teaching Centre activity.
· Management of Teaching Centre Payroll: Ensuring tasks are completed to satisfaction of line management. Responsible for ensuring that SAP has been updated with payroll amounts each month. Report on any issues, e.g. over/under payment, staff complaints to line management and to monitor the staff debt and report it monthly to line manager; Provide solutions in line with British Council standards and policy for payments in varied international and local contexts;
· Ensures all Teaching Centre income and stocks are accurately recorded and regularly reconciled: To be carried out in line with British Council standards, including stock for resale processes, fixed assets policy and income policies. Ensures all income is booked correctly and reconciliations are signed off and submitted as per agreed schedules;
· Effective Management of Debtors: In line with British Council standards and Debtor Management Policy and ensuring that all debts are recovered in due course;
· Manage all TC procurement activities: Ensure compliance at all times with British Council procurement processes;
· Management of Teaching Centre Registration: Monitoring the registration database, creating and monitoring registration procedures, income journals of Teaching Centre income, managing and monitoring class registers for accuracy & completion;
· Customer Relationship Management: Ensuring that at all times the needs of Teaching Centre customers are met to Teaching Centre standards (including customer communication and complaints handling) and ensuring that the customer journey from enquiry to graduation is as smooth and positive as possible.
· Managing and Developing Teaching Centre Administration: Including, but not limited to, managing procurement of Teaching Centre supplies, managing registration processes and customer payment processes; developing robust administration processes for external delivery projects and programmes;
· Recruitment and line Management of Teaching Centre Administration Assistant (tbc);
· Monitoring and development of our Equal Opportunities & Diversity policy in relation to the Teaching Centre.
Key relationships:
The Teaching Centre Resource Manager works closely with TC Administration staff, Teachers, Finance Manager, Procurement Manager, Customer Services Team and Teaching Centre management (currently Academic Manager, Country Director and wider SMT – plus TC management in Sudan).

Some evening and weekend work may be required. The post holder must have good levels of both Amharic and English languages.
