Job purpose
To support the Wessex Institute Business Intelligence development team with the development of data-driven web applications for both internal and external audiences.
Create, or facilitate the creation of, distributed systems to allow the integration of both existing and new applications into the University’s infrastructure in a scalable manner.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team, to ensure standards and best practices are endemic, and contribute to their development and evolution.

1.  / To deliver small, medium and large-scale web-based projects into a production environment. / 40 %
2.  / To review, maintain and extend existing applications using standard web technologies. / 20 %
3.  / To facilitate cross application integration within the IT estate of the Wessex Institute and the wider University. / 10 %
4.  / To support use of applications with the provision of documentation, support and training materials as appropriate / 10 %
5.  / To liaise with end users concerning existing and future application requirements. / 5 %
6.  / To assist users with the use of web applications and the resolution of reported problems. / 5 %
7.  / To facilitate the handover of completed products to the Wessex Institute Information Systems Support Team / 5 %

Internal and external relationships /
The post holder will be expected to work productively with other iSolutions staff as part of an integrated team, so that Wessex Institute information management is developed within the University-wide framework appropriately adapted to local needs.
The post holder will be expected to help establish robust working relationships with suppliers based on clearly defined service levels and standards, working practices and change management procedures. They will work with other staff within the Wessex Institute to understand their database and information needs and support the team in factoring these into the Information Strategy, business planning and budgeting.
The post holder will work with external staff, for example at the Department of Health (DH) or the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), to provide information as appropriate and to be aware of DH guidance on matters such as the Data Protection Act.

To maintain the relevant level of professional expertise and qualifications to discharge the duties of a professional specialist and to agree with the team manager on a relevant professional development programme.
There may be a requirement to work varying core hours, and on occasion to work outside normal hours, to ensure that service commitments are met.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience / Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 in an appropriate subject area.

Professional qualification in a relevant subject plus formal training
Demonstrable experience of application development with three or more of the following:

Experience of working with relational databases. / ITIL or similar quality assurance standard (minimum Foundation level)
Experience with:

·  Database interfacing and messaging technologies
·  Non-relational databases
