Jessie Cooper Study Grants for Mature Entry Women

There shall be study grants established by the University through the Alumni Association to commemorate the Women's Suffrage Centenary and to be known as the Jessie Cooper Study Grants for Mature Entry Women. Subject to sufficient funds being available, there will be one study grant to the value of $1,000 (based on a full-time study load, or proportionately reduced for a part-time load) available in each of the four faculties annually.

Eligibility

Applicants for the study grants must be women who:

(a) have normally gained entry to the University either by Adult Year 12 or by Special Entry Assessment; and

(b) will be students in the last year of their first undergraduate degrees; and

(c) can demonstrate that their financial and personal circumstances will inhibit completion.

Tenure

Study grant holders must remain enrolled in the year in which the study grant is awarded. Study grant payments will be withdrawn if the study grant holder withdraws or is precluded from the course, and will not be available for a repeat year of study.

Source of Funds

The study grants shall be funded from donations primarily from the University's graduates and, if funds permit, will be amended each year in line with movements in the Consumer Price Index. The study grants will cease if donations are not sufficiently forthcoming to ensure perpetuity.

Selection

The study grants will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit.

Selection will be made in accordance with procedures approved by the Director, Academic and Student Services. If no applicants are considered to be of sufficient merit the study grants shall not be awarded. If it is deemed that there are no applicants of sufficient merit in a particular faculty, the Selection Committee may re-allocate the study grant to another faculty.

Applications

Applications must be made on the prescribed form, which can be downloaded from the University website, or available from the Higher Degree Administration and Scholarships Office, and lodged by the specified closing date.
