COMPETITION NAME KICKS OFF IN CITY, STATE

CITY, State (Date)– Event Name is scheduled to begin date at Venue. Sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating, Eventis hosted by the Club Name (initials).

Skaters will vie for titles in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dancing[RF1]as well as the chance to qualify for the next round of competition (sectional, U.S. Figure Skating Championships, U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships).

Credentials: Media who would like access the practice and competition venues must be credentialed by the local organizing committee. Credentials will be issued at the registration desk in the location.A photo ID is required. The deadline to request credentialsis date. Filming and Photography:Upon arrival, designatedpositions in the arena will be assigned to credentialed photographers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Monday, April 4

The local organizing committee (LOC) will be busy at the Civic Center preparing the venue for the competition. The LOC is chaired by NAFSC President Alan E. Wolf of Falmouth, U.S. Figure Skating judge Glenda J. Winn of Belgradeand NAFSC Test Chair Diane Huntley of Coopers Mills.

Tuesday, March 3

The North Atlantic Figure Skating Club will host “Demo Day” at 1 p.m. at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth. Following a brief exhibition by the club’s new synchronized skating team, media will be invited to learn the basic elements of the sport in a group lesson format. This is the only event related to the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships at which cameras will be allowed on the ice. Media credentials are not required for this event; however, please RSVP to name, organization/title, at contact information.

Wednesday, March 4

Teams take to the ice for their first official practice at the Civic Center.

Thursday, March 5

The competition kicks off at 1:15 p.m. with the opening ceremonies, which will feature performances by skaters from Greater Portland, including the new NAFSC synchronized skating team, composed of girls ages 9-12, skating to the title track from Mamma Mia; Sharper Edge, a synchronized skating team from Dover, N.H.; and NAFSC’s top freestyle skaters, ages 11-16, skating to “O…Saya” from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. Later that afternoon, champions are crowned in the juvenile and intermediate divisions.

Friday, March 6

Champions are crowned in the masters and junior divisions. Nancy Peterson, a Saco native and graduate of Thornton Academy,will compete Friday in the masters division, starting at 3 p.m., with Esprit de Corps, a team from the Hayden Recreation Center in Lexington, Mass. Other synchronized skaters with Maine ties will be volunteering at the event, including Kelly Hedman of Falmouth, Stacy McAllister of Brownfield, Alexa Ainsworth of Cape Elizabethand Barbara Winkler of Old Town.

Saturday, March 7

Champions are crowed in the adult, collegiate, novice and senior divisions. The top two senior-level finishers will qualify for the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, April 8-9 in Helsinki, Finland. Sarah Parrish, a 2008 graduate of Colby College in Waterville, will compete Saturday, starting at 12:35 p.m., in the adult division with Esprit de Corps, a team from the Hayden Recreation Center in Lexington, Mass. Samantha Mick from South Berwick will compete Saturday in the collegiate division, starting at 2:27 p.m., with the University of New Hampshire Figure Skating Team based in Durham.
