Dear candidate
Many thanks for showing an interest in this exciting role.
Working for Sense is hard work, fun and provides tremendous satisfaction.
In Sense professionals we look for a mixture of engagement (we love working with, supporting and helping a wide range of people), values (this role represents Sense to the wider community and is a role model to our local staff) and positive tenacity (we don’t give up).

At the heart of the role is an opportunity to support children and young people in securing the support they need to develop and live independent lives. We also expect the Children and Young People’s Services Manager to play a key role in raising awareness of Sense services through local networking and promotion of our work.
Equally important is being able to manage the variety of activities that contribute to the smooth operation of the locality teams as well as supporting the day to day workload of experienced practitioners. So, empathy, ability to build positive working relationships and a real understanding of the impact of sensory impairments are also valuable skills.
We are in a time of some of the biggest reforms in Special Education for over 30 years as well as further reforms in social care. Tenacity for innovating new approaches to delivering our work and maintaining our role as a leading voluntary organisation are key attributes.
The role is part of the national Children’s Specialist Services team; it is a great service so you will get support and guidance but will also be expected to contribute to the national plans and deliver to targets.
This is a new post, following natural progression by a couple of members of the national team. We are reviewing our management structure and the overall picture is being finalised. Initially this post will report to the Head of Children’s Specialist Services but that may change. However, this post is a crucial part of moving the direction of the team forwards and it is an exciting time of development.
Still interested?
If it is not clear already this is a key role which could provide a lot of satisfaction in helping children, young people and their families to develop, achieve and make the most of their lives.
In joining Sense you would be joining one of the world leaders in deafblindness and we would provide support and training to help you in your development needs.
We look forward to reading your application. The closing date for this position is 14th September 2014. Interviews are scheduled to take place on 19th September either in Wakefield or London (location to be confirmed).
Best of luck
Yours
Steve Rose
