Business Studies and Economics
The Business and Economics department is seen as a vibrant and lively hub of activity, which is held in high regard throughout the school. The ethos is one of promoting intelligent and stimulating learning which excites, inspires and motivates students of all levels.
The department has its own dedicated area within the 6th form, comprising of three classrooms, two of which are fully equipped with modern ICT facilities. The department consists of a hard-working team who are enthusiastic and committed to the learning of the children at the school.We aim to give our students the knowledge and skills to understand the working of the economy and business organisations.
Departmental Aims
The Business Studies Department aims to achieve the following:
- A rewarding and stimulating learning experience for students
- The learning and application of Business Studies theory to the world of today
- Specific and measurable learning outcomes in preparation for the examination
- A broad range of transferable skills and useful knowledge in preparation for further study
and/or working life
Aims of Economics
- To develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life
- To encourage students to apply economic concepts and theories in a range of contexts and to appreciate their value and limitations in explaining real-world phenomena
Aims of Business Studies
- To develop a critical understanding of organisations, the context in which they operate, the markets they serve and the process of adding value
- To develop key skills through an investigative, problem solving approach, which requires analysis and evaluation of business scenarios

2016Results:
At GCSE level, the department enjoyed a70% A*-C pass rate at with 37%of pupils achieving A*-A. In Business Studies at A-level we achieved 92% A*-C with 58% of students achieving A*-B.In A Level Economics we achieved 80% A*-C grades, with 50% of students achieving A*-B.As you can see, some outstanding results across the board for this department.
