Sensenbrenner announced he will file bill H.R. 904 to prevent federal funding of motorcycle only checkpoints – the bill forces the D.O.T. to focus motorcycle safety efforts on crash prevention programs, not national helmet mandates. Contact your sitting member of the House and ask them to be an original co-sponsor and to contact Congressman James Sensenbrenner and lend their support.

Governor’s Highway Safety Association released 2012 fatality preliminary report, results are distorted to present one single sided solution to motorcycle safety. Deaths are attributed to mild weather bringing out more riders in 2012, gas prices high so people riding more and improving economy causing bike sales to rise. Fatalities are up but so are registrations but registration numbers were not included in the report.

Anthony Fox, Mayor of Charlotte NC, to be next Secretary of Transportation – MRF says he hasn’t made agenda statement yet.

ABATE of Michigan calls for increased education, enforcement and penalties. Lot of accidents involving non-licensed riders.

An illegal alien who killed a MA resident was declared incompetent to stand trial since he didn’t understand U.S. policy due to being foreign.

Chris said we lost 87 members state wide the last 3 months and can’t keep this up. Over 400,000 registered bikes in this state. Indiana has a program that when you get your endorsement from the Safety Course, you have the option of joining ABATE or getting $25 back. We started Motorcycle Ohio and support it. Is our training program. Suggestion that we run it and Kolman states it would be hard for us to have the finances and personnel to do so. We could maybe have Ohio offer memberships or do a presentation at the rider course. Suggestion for us to get into school driver’s ed courses and MSAP program, Kolman says we do that now but only private driver’s ed – we have to contact schools.

We need a new state products person, need vehicle to tow trailer. Contact state if interested. Diane needs help with the newsletter layout and we need to find a replacement for her. Contact state office. We also need a state secretary, Cindy Ballas is taking over.

Awareness Rally - Thanks to those who got proclamations, we couldn’t get Columbus.
