SUMMER IS HERE!
As we enter the summer season Police are urging people to follow some simple safety measures during their summer holiday.
Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are amongst the safest places to live and visit in the country, and police recommend the following advice on how to continue to keep yourselves and your personal property safe whilst away on holiday.
Top safety tips while on your holiday:
Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle.
Secure your vehicle when unattended.
Keep your mobile gadgets in a safe place.
Don’t leave bags unattended.
Stick to well-lit paths and avoid walking alone at night.
Secure your vehicle/caravan/room/tent and do not leave any valuables on display.
Keep your vehicle keys in a safe place.
Use personal safes where provided.
Never drink and drive.
Be aware of speed limits and restrictions.
Safety at Home:
To deter criminals, please remember to check your doors and windows are secure before going out or retiring to bed, especially in periods of hot weather.
REPORTING OVERGROWN HEDGES etc.
It is now much quicker for members of the public to contact DCC directly rather than going through the Parish Council. An on-line ‘Report It’ facility now operates on the DCC web site to deal with complaints about items such as:
Roadside Hedge & Tree Maintenance,
Potholes,
Faulty Street Lights,
Go to
Or use Google to search for the terms ‘Devon Council Report It’
Or
Telephone 0845 155 1004
8am-8pm Mon/Fri 9am-1pm Saturday.
TAKING PRIDE IN IPPLEPEN
Recently the Parish Council instructed a contractor to weed kill most of the kerbsides within the village. It would be of great assistance if parishioners could remove and clear away the weeds outside their properties, and assisting neighbours who are not so able. Ipplepen is a lovely village to live in and it is up to us, the parishioners, to do what we can to help keep it that way.
ROAD CLOSURE IN EAST STREET
Please note that East Street will be closed from 2nd November to 3rd November inclusive to carry out essential works to the sewer by SWW. Many blockages are now occurring, in various parts of the village, mainly due to wet-wipes. All residents are reminded that wet wipes are not flushable and should not be put down the toilet.
TROUBLE AT ALLOTMENTS
During recent weeks there has been considerable thieving and damage going on at the Allotments, which is very disheartening for the tenants, when their carefully tended produce is stolen. It has come to the notice of the Parish Council from our Police Community Support Officer that parishioners, who have possibly seen or heard activity over at the allotments or recreation ground do not report this immediately on 101, as they do not wish to be involved. We therefore appeal to residents living nearby or anyone visiting the recreation ground and see anything suspicious going on, to please report this matter straight away by dialling 101 or email at no matter whether it is day or night. By the time parishioners read this notice the Parish Council will have opened the new toilet block and this message also applies to this new building please. Thank you all for your co-operation from IPPLEPEN PARISH COUNCIL
