Tournament of Champions 2017

December 1 & December 2, 2017

The Tournament of Champions at Carroll College will be hosted this year on the first weekend of December and will include varsity and novice debate- both LD and policy. We are offering one division of Public Forum using December NFL PF topic. Schools may enter 4 varsity policy; 4 novice policy; 4 varsity LD; 4 novice LD and 4 Public Forum. You may apply for extra slots, if space permits. Register by Wednesday, Nov. 22 on forensicstournament.net. Entry open now.

The entry fee is as follows.

Policy & Public Forum: $15 per team LD: $10 per team

Drops after 6 p.m. Weds., Nov. 30: $20 per entry penalty, plus the entry fee.

Some important details:

¨  Policy Topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its funding and/or regulation of elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.

¨  Lincoln/Douglas Topic: Resolved: Wealthy nations have an obligation to provide development assistance to other nations.

¨  Public Forum Topic: To be announced Nov. 1

¨  We will allow electronic evidence and laptops for evidence in debate. NSDA laptop rules.

¨  We will follow Montana High School Association (MHSA) rules of evidence.

¨  Sweepstakes: policy octo, 5; policy quarters, 10; policy semis, 15; policy finals, 20; policy, 1st, 25; LD&PF Oct 2.5; LD & PF Q, 5; LD/PF semis, 7.5; LD/PF finals, 10; LD/PF 1st, 12.5.

¨  We may break to octa-finals in some divisions, if size merits, but no losing teams will advance. We will break brackets.

¨  Coaches will be encouraged to judge – and will be fed well. Bring extra judges, please – the last edition of this tournament was huge and we used every judge available.

¨  Policy prep time will be five minutes; LD prep, four minutes; PF, two minutes.

¨  Awards are scheduled to begin no later than 7 p.m. Saturday, to allow a 7:30 p.m. departure for all schools NOT debating in a final round (which may occur after awards).

As usual we offer: good judging, a computerized tab room, warm hospitality for coaches and classy awards befitting the fine debaters you always bring to our tournament. We offer speaker awards in all divisions of debate. We also will offer two school sweepstakes awards. (Previous winners please bring them with you! Thanks).

RD 1: 4:00 p.m.
