Know the number, names, and locations of the world’s continents and oceans

Know the names of the three largest countries that make up the continent of North America and know the capital of each

Know the name and location of the Catholic church’s capital: Vatican City, which is located within the city of Rome, in the country of Italy, on the continent of Europe

Know the name of the longest river, largest lake, largest subtropical desert, and highest mountain in the United States. Also know in what state the highest U.S. mountain peak is located. Know the capital of that state

Know the name of the longest river, largest lake, largest subtropical desert, and highest mountain in the world and the continent where each is located

Know the largest and smallest U.S. state, southernmost U.S. state, the northern most U.S. state, the most and least populous U.S. states, and the capitals of each.

Know the longest mountain range in the United States and South America.

Know the name and capital of the largest country in the world.

Be able to locate and identify the Equator and North and South Poles on a map or globe.

Know the name of the river that forms part of the border between Mexico and the United States

Know the mountain range where most of the highest mountain peaks in the world can be found and the continent where the range is located.

Know the name of the largest island in the world that is not a continent

Know the name of the largest lake in Africa, and South America

Know the name of the highest mountain peak in Europe, Africa, and South America

Know the name and locations of the five longest rivers in the world.

Additional Areas of Study for the Bee Contestants:

  • Be able to name and identify on a blank map the location of the Bering Strait, Hudson Bay, Persian Gulf, and the following seas: Mediterranean, Adriatic, Red, Arabian, and Caribbean Seas.
  • Know the locations and capitals of Australia, France, England, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Portugal, Sweden, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Italy, South Korea, North Korea, Cuba, Japan, China, and The Philippines. ( Be able to identify them on a blank map)
  • Know the number, names, and locations of the Great Lakes. (Be able to identify them on a blank map)
  • If we run out of questions, contestants will move to the capitals of the 50 United States and their locations.
