COMPETITIONWARM-UPSAFETYPROCEDURES

MeetManagementforallsanctionedCanadianswimmingcompetitionmustensurethefollowingsafetyproceduresareapplied.Itisincumbentoncoaches,swimmers,andofficialstocomplywiththeseproceduresduringallscheduledwarm-upperiods.CoachesarerequestedtoencourageswimmerstocooperatewithSafetyMarshals.

GENERALWARM-UP:

  • SwimmersmustenterthewaterFEETFIRSTinacautiousmanner,enteringfromastartorturnendonlyandfromastandingorsittingposition.
  • Runningonthepooldeckandrunningentriesintothepooltankareprohibited.
  • MeetManagementmaydesignatetheuseofsprintorpacelanesduringthescheduledwarm-uptime.Anysuchlaneusagemustbecommunicatedeitherinpre-competitionhandout,announcementordecksignage.
  • Divingstartsshallbepermittedonlyindesignatedsprintlanes.
  • Onlyone-wayswimmingfromthestartendofsprintlanesispermitted.
  • Noticesorbarriersmustbeplacedonstartingblockstoindicatenodivingduringwarm-up.

EQUIPMENT:

  • KickBoards,Pull-Buoys,AnkleBands,andSnorkelsarepermittedforuseinthescheduledwarm-uptime.
  • MeetManagementmaypermituseoftubingorcordassistedsprintingindesignatedlanesandduringspecifictimesofthewarm-uponly.Coachesareresponsibleforequipmentreliabilityanduse.
  • Handpaddles,dragchutes,andflippers/finsarenotpermittedduringanywarm-upatanytime.

VIOLATIONS:

  • SwimmerswitnessedbyaSafetyMarshaldivingorenteringthewaterinadangerousfashionwillberemovedwithoutwarningfromtheirfirsteventfollowingthewarm-upperiodinwhichtheviolationoccurred.
  • Inthecaseofasecondoffenseduringthesamecompetitiontheswimmerwillberemovedfromthecompetitioninitsentirety.Aprovincialdisciplinaryactionorreportmaybefiled.

SAFETYMARSHALS:

TheSafetyMarshalisatrainedpositiondesignatedbyMeetManagement.SafetyMarshalsshall:

  • Bevisiblebysafetyvest
  • Besituatedateachendofthecompetitiontankandwhenapplicable,similarlysituatedindesignatedwarm-uptankswhenpre-competitionwarm-upsarescheduled.
  • Activelymonitorallscheduledwarm-upperiods.
  • Ensureparticipantscomplywithwarm-upsafetyproceduresandreportviolationstotheReferee.

PARA-SWIMMER NOTIFICATION:

CoachesarerequestedtonotifySafetyMarshalsofanyPara-swimmersparticipatinginwarm-upswherenecessaryandatthecoach’sdiscretion.

ThefollowingstatementmustappearinallSwimmingCanadasanctionedmeetinformationandpostednotices:

“SWIMMINGCANADAWARM-UPCOMPETITIONSAFETYPROCEDURESWILL BEINEFFECTATTHISMEET.”
