2017-2018 School Psychologist Internship Program

San Diego Unified School District is the second largest district in California. Due to its size and diverse population, we are able to offer interns a unique opportunity to obtain a breadth of skills and experiences. The purpose of our Internship Program is to build the capacity of competent School Psychologist candidates who serve a wide range of student needs within schools. This includes prevention, intervention, counseling, consultation, assessment, and program evaluation. We provide interns the ability to work with a variety of student populations and perform a wide range of school psychologist duties in order to meet the university requirements and obtain the Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Details regarding the internship program are as follows:

·  All internships within SDUSD are full time, paid, and require a school year long commitment. Projected Intern pay is $15 per hour up to 800 hours without benefits.

·  We have a careful selection procedure for potential interns, which include presentation of a portfolio of your work, transcripts, practicum evaluation, letters of recommendation, and vitae. Applicants from out-of-state must be enrolled in a NASP-approved program to be considered for an internship with San Diego Unified School District.

·  Due to the diversity in SDUSD, interns will have the opportunity to gain experience in various programs and school environments. Interns typically spend three to four days per week at a school site with their site supervisor and one to two days per week in a rotation. Rotations not only meet university requirements but also provide the intern with a glance of the different ways school psychologists provide services to students. The following are possible rotation opportunities within SDUSD:

Elementary/Middle/High School (Comprehensive campuses)

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

Behavior Support Resources (BSR)

o  Whittier School

Alternative Learning and Behavior Attitude community school (ALBA)

Riley School/Unified Day

Traditional Resources for Adult Community Education (TRACE Alternative School)

Low Incidence and Visually Impaired

Successful Transition Achieved with Responsive Support (STARS)

Children and Youth In Transition (CYT)

·  Intern meetings are scheduled at various times throughout the year, which provide interns a time to share, analyze, and discuss with their peers cases and experiences at school sites. Additionally content presentations/discussions and guest speakers will also be scheduled within these meetings.

·  Interns have access to all trainings/professional development opportunities not only provided by the school psychology department but the entire district. We feel we offer some of the best training opportunities and professional development experiences in the county.

We begin accepting applications February 26, 2018. The deadline is March 16, 2018. Interviews will be scheduled for accepted candidates in early April 2017.
