What you missed
When you don’t attend the meetings of The Rotary Club of Greenway/River Oaks you miss our interesting speakers such as Harold Harris who talked about long distance bike riding and riding in the MS 150 from Houston to Austin. This region has raised more money than any other region in the USA to fight MS. The next MS 150 will beApril 17-18, 2010. Richard came decked out in his padded riding shorts and shirt and showed us his special shoes that hold onto the petals. He brought his carbon bike which cost $4200!
On October 13, Dr. Richard Taylor a psychologist talked to us about his eight year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Many found it difficult to believe he had this disease as he made his inspiring presentation. He pointedly reminded us not to forget people because they are sick, disabled or just old. He has written a book, Alzheimer’s from the Inside Out, describing what has happened to him and what he has learned.
When aren’t at the meeting you miss guests, new member inductions, and birthday celebrations such as Jack Wallace falling on his knees in front of Anna Grassini to sing “Happy Birthday”to her. You also miss Goldy giving the “Dan Britt Rotary Minute,” Greg Ralph giving us the schedule of events for the club and the District and a decent lunch with excellent fellowship. And of course, we miss you when you aren’t there.
Nicaragua Trip Planned December 1
District 5890 has a planned trip to Nicaragua on December 1.This will be a tremendously up-lifting trip to see all that Rotary has accomplished, and is still accomplishing for the people of Nicaragua who are living in extreme poverty. This is a special trip because they will be delivering Christmas boxes to all our kids who are attending school and visiting all our projects, including the school of the dump, the school for blind children, the trade school, the hospital, the home for expectant mothers and the three villages that Rotary has helped to build.
They will also spend a day and night at a beautiful new resort, Villas de Palermo in San Juan Del Sur inSouthern Nicaragua. Those interested in going call or e-mail, Jim Kite: ; 979-251-0840.This will be a trip that you will never forget.
