Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th August. By popular request Tom Meskell will be facilitating another lantern making workshop. Figurative Lanterns.

This is a lantern making workshop using wire as a framework and covering this with tissue, Tom has mainly used willow frames in the past but after spending time with the Liverpool Lantern company last December he is excited by the sculptural possibilities of working with wire. This is an in-depth two day workshop and will involve - Introduction to the materials - Planning the piece (the theme is the human form) - making the wire frame - installing lights - covering piece - arranging and documenting work. All materials are included, if you bring your favourite wire snips that is all you need. You can except to come out of the workshop with a finished lantern of a life size human being.

Tom Meskell has developed a reputation for working in many media, mainly in his ability to work with groups and as a coordinator of people in creating art work.

His most successful projects have been sculptural lantern projects and environmental sculpture projects, tom is also a highly respected arts in health practitioner.

Tom’s work has appeared in the Kilkenny arts festival, Roula Boula Festival, Public art award with Mayo Co Co, Cosan Glas environmental sculpture trail, New ground environmental sculpture project, Raumers residency Finland, to name but a few.

Transport issues – (for lanterns) finished lanterns need time for the glue to dry, therefore we are suggesting that if you live locally your finished lantern can be collected from my studio when it is dry – or if you live a distance you can finish your lantern at home, Tom will provide you with all the knowledge and materials.
