World's Strongest Conveyor Belt
Phoenix development makes conveyor in Chile possible
Munich, January 2007. Numerous projects underscore the clear international market leadership of Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems in the development and production of extremely strong conveyor belts. Two examples are the world's strongest conveyor belt and the strongest belt used underground. The company will be showcasing its products at the world's largest construction fair, the bauma, from April 23 to 29 in Munich at booth 235 in hall C2.
The world's strongest conveyor belt is in operation in Los Pelambres in Chile. The Phoenocord St 7800 from Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems conveys some 8,700 tons of copper ore an hour from the mine to the processing facilities 13 kilometers away. "Without our exceptionally strong conveyor belt, which was the result of intensive development activities, this conveyor would not have been possible," reports Bernd Küsel, who is in charge of sales at Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems. "Without it, they would be using trucks there today."
The Phoenocord St 7800 has a breaking force of 8500 Newton per millimeter belt width. But what good is the best belt if the splices do not hold up? For that reason, the belt is also equipped with the world's strongest and longest splices which can withstand the same loads as the belt. Supplier Caucho Técnica fabricated the 78 splices in 100 days, assisted by Phoenix installation engineers.
The world's strongest conveyor belt in use underground is a Phoenocord St 7500. The 8,000-meter-long steel cable conveyor belt from Phoenix Conveyor Belt Systems is used in the Prosper II coal mine in Bottrop. "This belt is unique not only because of its breaking load but also because it conveys material simultaneously on both sides and in both directions," explains Küsel. It transports the coal to the surface from a depth of 800 meters while at the same time returning stones that remain from the washing process back underground.
