Status:0.2 FTE, permanent, academic contract

Job Purpose:To support the Assistant Head of Department in the achievement of the College Objectives in terms of Key Performance Indicators and management lecturing staff within a Programme area

Salary:up to SCP 34 (£32,209 per annum pro rata)

Mainscale lecturer + 2 Spinal Column Points, pro rata

The principal duties and responsibilities of the post include:

Management and Curriculum Leadership

  • Support the Department Management Team in communicating the mission, vision, values and behaviours of the College and ensure these are effectively embedded across the programme
  • In conjunction with the Department Management Team, support the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the programme including ILT
  • In conjunction with the Department Management Team, support the maintenance and development of high levels of professional conduct within the programme in accordance with the College policies and procedures
  • Support the implementation of strategies to bring about sustainable improvements in the quality of learning and teaching delivered within the programme
  • Ensure that appropriate improvement targets in respect of the quality of learning, teaching and attainment are established, effectively monitored and achieved across the programme
  • Ensure effective planning of a responsive curriculum across programmes utilising resources effectively to deliver quality in curriculum delivery, personal tutor provision and student support
  • Contribute to, and lead on when required, the production of timely, accurate and incisive reports to the Governing Body and its various committees following agreed corporate conventions
  • Be part of, and deliver, the College Performance Management system consistently and with objectivity based on effective target setting, measurement of performance and identification of staff development

Learner Achievement

  • Utilise data and strategies to ensure outstanding performance within the Department and to be accountable for, sustained improvements in learner achievement to exceed national averages in all provision
  • Ensure, using data, that the targets for key performance indicators such as learner punctuality and attendance, retention, achievement and progression are realistic, challenging, and achieved
  • Ensure that within the Programme Area robust systems and procedures are maintained and developed to support the production of accurate and timely learner data
  • Support the Programme Team with the development and implementation of schemes of work, teaching and learning materials and assessment programmes which meet quality standards associated with outstanding provision
  • Ensure that within the Programme Team teaching and training files are maintained in accordance with the College’s quality standards
  • Provide timely and relevant information and guidance to current and prospective learners, parents/ guardians and employers
  • Maintain learner records and data in accordance with the College’s data management procedures and use these effectively to drive standards of performance
  • Ensure that an entrepreneurial culture is developed where resources are developed to support business idea creation and development

Learner Experience

  • Support the Programme Team to be accountable for sustained improvements in teaching and learning for the benefit of all learners
  • Ensure effective systems are in place to gather and analyse learner feedback and, in conjunction with the Learner Voice initiative and identify appropriate actions to address learner needs and satisfaction in conjunction with Student Services
  • Contribute to the creation of a safe learner culture and ensure that the College's safeguarding procedures are embedded across the Programme

Quality & Planning

  • Ensure that the College and Department quality arrangements are consistently applied across the Programme and that quality control procedures are maintained as a high priority
  • Where necessary, undertake the role of lead internal verifier and point of contact for awarding bodies
  • Manage the production and implementation of Programme level self assessment reports
  • In conjunction with the College's Quality Unit, ensure the Department is suitably prepared for inspections including the maintenance of quality assurance information
  • Support the implementation and management of the College’s teaching observation procedures

Recruitment and Marketing

  • Work with the Department Management Team to promote course provision and grow learner numbers
  • Co-ordinate enrolment and taster sessions for the cohort
  • Implement induction procedures across the provision

People Management and Development

  • Implement agreed systems and procedures to promote personal excellence, learning, and development within the team
  • Exercise high standards of people management and practices across the team in line with the College's Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that staffing resources are deployed efficiently and effectively in accordance with College guidance
  • Maintain a culture and working environment in which team members are valued and in which success is acknowledged and rewarded
  • Ensure effective systems of communication are in place to disseminate information within the team.
