Title: Groomer

Department: Animal Care

This position reports to: Animal Care Supervisor or

Animal Care Associate Manager

This position supervises: Volunteers

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Purpose of Position: Groom shelter animals to enhance their appearance, behavior, and health.

Responsibilities

This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Employees are required to follow any other job related duties assigned by their supervisor. This document does not create an employment contract implied or otherwise, other than an “at‐will” relationship.

·  Groom and provide care for animals, including but not limited to, cats, dogs, and a variety of small mammals such as guinea pigs and hamsters. This includes moving animals, washing animals, and using equipment to trim hair and nails.

·  Provide assistance to the part time Groomer with more complicated grooming procedures.

·  Maintain equipment in the grooming area to prevent the spread of disease and keep a clean working environment.

·  Perform data entry and documentation to update animal records.

·  Monitor and maintain supplies.

·  Train and direct volunteers to perform proper grooming and humane care.

·  Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures.

·  Perform euthanasia and related tasks.

Position Description

Position Qualifications: Education, Experience, Certification, and Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required

·  High school diploma or equivalent

·  Minimum one year of Animal Grooming experience including: bathing, de-matting and shave downs.

·  Ability to safely handle a variety of small mammals such as hamsters, guinea pigs, etc.

·  Ability to effectively communicate and work within a team environment

·  Ability to complete work without close supervision

·  Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Desired

·  Certification in animal grooming

·  3-5 years’ experience grooming dogs and cats

·  Working knowledge of grooming equipment and maintenance

·  Experience leading or coordinating the work of others

·  Knowledge and experience working with wide varied of small animal breeds

Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

Handle and restrain animals of various sizes, weights, and temperaments. Subject to animal bites or scratches. Work performed in high noise level areas. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Physical efforts require constant bending, stooping, standing, climbing stairs, and walking. Frequent lifting of animals and objects with reasonable accommodation.
