A Newsletter for PreK ESE Teachers

Week of August 29, 2011

News

Growing Readers is a free monthly service written especially for parents that offers practical tips about reading, writing, and learning. Growing Readers is also a wonderful resource to use in a preschool program, elementary school, or PTA parent newsletters. Just download, print, and distribute! Growing Readers is brought to you by the national education initiatives ReadingRockets.org, ColorinColorado.org and LDOnLine.org. The articles are written in English and Spanish.

Just the facts…

If you were thinking your classes were crowded last year, here’s why…during the 2010-11 school year, we (PDIS) screened 1,470 children, held 435 transition meetings (Part C to Part B), conducted 1,115 evaluations and held 1,067 eligibility staffings. Yikes! We’re just two weeks into the 2011-2012 school year and we’ve already screened 119 children! Double Yikes!!

Reminders

Our first PreK ESE Teacher meeting is Wednesday, September 14th at Orlando Tech in room 431. Orlando Tech is connected to the ELC via the parking garage. We will meet from 2:00-3:30 pm. We realize due to distance and dismissal times not everyone will be able to meet by 2:00 so please join us when you can. Make sure to register at http://signmeup.ocps.net so we can have enough resources, handouts, snacks, etc. It will be posted soon.

Quote/Thought of the Week

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

~Leo Buscaglia
