MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 16, 2009 MEETING

Sue Cannon called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

MEMBER’S PRESENT: Sue Cannon, Carole Cook, Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Edward Lanati, Gary McGuire, Wanda Smith, and Frances Urbank.

MEMBERS ABSENT: Barbara Sullivan.

ALSO PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey.

PUBLIC PRESENT: None.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Wanda Smith and seconded by Frances Urbank; the October 19, 2009 report was accepted.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Treasurer’s Report prepared by Barbara Sullivan. Discussion on trips to the casinos. Upon a motion by Edward Lanti and seconded by Gary McGuire; the Treasurer’s Report was accepted.

PUBLIC INPUT: None.

BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Bus Coordinator’s Report prepared by Sandy Hebert. The 2006 Bus had a new heater core put in. Frances Urbank stated the Driver’s Hours Report has incorrect numbers, missing numbers, and wrong total hours listed. She also reported other previous months, also show incorrect driver hours.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report. She reported the Craft Fair was a great success. The Veterans Tribute is scheduled for November 18, 2009. John Sullivan is competing in the Senior Stars on December 1, 2009. December 17, 2009 is the Town Employees Carol Sing. December 22, 2009 is the Senior Center Christmas tour. December 23, 2009 is the staff Christmas Party. New Program Update: Manicures, Water Fitness, Medicare Workshops, and Quilling classes are all very popular classes. Computer class for Face book was postponed, and Healthy Eating was canceled last month. Trips include: Ingleside Shopping, Bright Nights, Mohegan, Foxwoods, St. Westchester Theater, Radio City Christmas Show, and Jazzamatazz Christmas Sturbridge. Ann Marie Claffey reported on problems with parking. She stated the parking lot fills up, cars are parked in the street, and it is dangerous for everyone leaving the center either, driving or walking. She reported to the board, that the two houses across the street from the Senior Center are available for sale, and would make a great parking area for seniors. The houses would be demolished and the area paved. The land is flat, and is directly across from the center making an easier walk for seniors. Sue Cannon stated she will look into grant money for parking. Donations in the amount of $390 were received in the memory of Angelina Kelsey. Ann Marie Claffey will send a Thank You note to the family. The exercise equipment has been delivered and is being stored for the time being. The Housing Authority Room is locked, and in the hands of the attorneys. The contract ends in 2016, and has to be

amended before the exercise equipment can be moved in there. Ann Marie Claffey asked the CONA Board to send a letter to Selectman Steven Wawruck stating CONA’s position on the usage of the room. Ann Marie Claffey reported she is looking into capital improvements for new locks, security cameras, and better lighting on the outside of the building. Ann Marie Claffey reported all department check books will now be kept with the Finance Department.

OLD BUSINESS:

a)  Election of officers: Frances Urbank asked to make a motion to keep the same officers as last year. Gary McGuire asked to have a new motion for election of officers. Frances Urbank made a motion nominating Sue Cannon as Chairman, Gary McGuire made a motion nominating Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham for Chairman, and Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham declined the position. Edward Lanati seconded the motion nominating Sue Cannon as Chairman. The motion was accepted, Gary McGuire opposed.

Edward Lanati made a motion nominating Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham as Vice-Chairman, seconded by Wanda Smith, the motion was accepted.

Frances Urbank made a motion nominating Barbara Sullivan as Treasurer, seconded by Gary McGuire, the motion was accepted.

Wanda Smith made a motion nominating Carole Cook as Secretary, seconded by Frances Urbank, the motion was accepted.

NEW BUSINESS: Gary McGuire inquired about winter parking for the buses. Ann Marie Claffey stated, starting in December the buses will be parking in bays on Spring Street owned by Sales.

ADJOURNMENT: Upon a motion by Edward Lanati and seconded by Gary McGuire the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
