HILLTOP JUNIOR SCHOOL
CHILD OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
2014/2015
The Child of Achievement Awards is given annually to as many as 40 children. Four children are chosen from each class by their fellow pupils and their teacher. The awards are divided into four categories: Progress with class work; Achievement with class work; Citizenship – good class member; Sport – effort, performance and sportsmanship.

Excellent progress with school work / Throughout the year Nicole has conscientiously worked to do her best and has made over a year’s progress in her reading and writing. She is well motivated and has an excellent attitude to learning. For these reasons I have chosen Nicole to receive this award.
Daniel Moss / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / Daniel has progressed well this year. A quiet member of the class who always listens and applies all that is asked. Daniel is starting to come out of his shell in class by volunteering information in class and group discussions. He should be proud of his achievements.
Emmi Smith / Citizenship
Good class or school member / The class voted for this award and Emmi was the close winner. She always has a positive outlook, is a very polite and caring child who is always willing to help her peers in and out of the classroom. As her peers have said “she is a good friend”.
Cody Longman / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / Cody displays good sportsmanship qualities by a good sense of fair play and encourages others. He is considered by all to be a good team player.

Excellent progress with school work / Mia has made good progress across the curriculum. This is as a result of her working in a steady and methodical manner. Mia has listened carefully to instructions, and followed advice given in order to improve her knowledge, skills and understanding. Mia is able to evaluate her work effectively and acts upon her own advice to make further progress.
Emily Swan / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / Emily has achieved academic success as a result of her excellent application and positive attitude towards work and school. She listens and follows advice given in order to improve her knowledge, she can always be relied upon to apply herself fully.I have absolutely no doubt she will continue to go from strength to strength throughout her Junior years and I look forward to seeing how she progresses over time.
Thomas Roberts / Citizenship
Good class or school member / Thomas is a well behaved and sensible member of the class. Thomas always listens, tries hard, and never distracts people in lessons. He has a calm and gentle manner and always helps others when they are hurt. Thomas is a delightful member of the school community and is an excellent role model to others.
Joe McClure / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / Joe is a good all-rounder in PE. He uses his strength and power effectively in games, and also demonstrates elegance and poise in dance. Joe works creatively and skilfully in all areas and I have no doubt that he could be extremely successful in this area of the curriculum.

Excellent level of achievement with work / Ryan has achieved a high standard across a range of areas, showing his true potential and capability in everything he does.
Laila Burgess / Citizenship
Good class or school member / Laila is reliable, helpful and a good role model to her class. As well as being willing to help people in class she is also an amazing librarian and has been a snack trolley monitor, supporting the school.
Freddie Strange / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / Freddie takes part in PE lessons in school, putting in a lot of effort and encouraging others. He also takes part in after school sports clubs where his friends say he is a team player.

Excellent progress with school work / Toby has shown determination throughout the year to do well. He is prepared to listen to advice and act upon it. Although he did not find reading easy he rose to the ‘Reading Challenge’. He has started to read regularly and improve his reading skills, impacting on his spelling and writing skills too.
Ruby Alsford / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / This year through her own determination and self- motivation to do well in all subjects, her work is always of a high standard and beautifully presented. Equally importantly is her gaining confidence in herself. A great year for Ruby.
Susan Holmes / Citizenship
Good class or school member / She is thoughtful and kind to others. Susan uses her initiative and is helpful without being asked, she is the first to tidy up or give out equipment. She is always hard working and an excellent role model for her peers. The first to get a ‘Catch Me’ bronze badge.
Archie Cockerill / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / He always tries hard to improve his skills. He is a thoughtful team player and is prepared to help others. He has represented Hilltop Junior School.

Excellent progress with school work / Rosie always works extremely hard, putting in 100% effort. Her hard work and determination are evident, as she has made progress in all areas of the curriculum. Well done!
Scarlett Shuttlewood / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / Scarlett is a hard working member of the class. All of her work is produced to a high standard and she is constantly looking for ways to challenge herself and improve.
Harry Roberts / Citizenship
Good class or school member / Harry is a kind, positive and helpful member of the class. He always offers to help in the class and is constantly encouraging others. Harry is a pleasant, thoughtful class member who has been a delight to work with.
Harrison Wilderspin / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / Harrison is a great team player who will always encourage others. He listens carefully during PE and demonstrates this through the skills he displays. Harrison shows determination and enthusiasm in all areas of sport and encourages others, especially when representing Hilltop Junior School at the ‘Summer Games’.

Excellent progress with school work / The class teacher has chosen this person because she always listens to advice to produce the best results she can. She has produced excellent results in mathematics and writing this year. She always has a hard working attitude in all areas of the curriculum and asks interesting and thoughtful questions.
Lucie Austin / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / This person has been chosen because she has worked conscientiously to do her best all year. She takes on board advice given to her to improve her work and has adopted the reading miles challenge with sustained enthusiasm. She has made above expected progress in writing and maths and good progress in reading and science. Additionally her homework is always of a very high standard and goes the extra mile to produce extra studying of her own.
Roxy Miller / Citizenship
Good class or school member / The class has chosen Roxy because she has a kind and caring nature which she shares with every class member. She never complains about others and is popular with everyone. She comes to school ready to work and has a positive outlook, no matter how she is feeling, and supports others in need.
Sam Compton / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / The class have chosen Sam because he demonstrates empathy towards others in team sports. He shows determination to try his best and is always ready to win. If he loses he is disappointed but is always proud of his efforts. He is considered to be a good team player and has a good sense of fair play.

Excellent progress with school work / Ella has put her heart and soul into improving all aspects of her work. We have been pleased with Ella’s progress with reading and writing which are areas she has put extra effort into this year.
Kris Stalev / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / Kris started Hilltop Juniors this year unable to speak or write English, what a difference a school year has made. He has achieved more than Mrs Mate and Mrs Leach could have imagined – well done!
Ella Murphy / Citizenship
Good class or school member / Ella is a kind, beautifully behaved member of 5LM. Every class needs an Ella. Never grumpy or down, Ella is a role model pupil and is reliable- we will miss you Ella.
Callum Pearmain / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / There could only be one possible candidate from 5LM as Callum is the only child who shows great sportsmanship ALL the time. A great team player who shows consideration and encouragement to others – well deserved!

Excellent progress with school work / She has made an average 7.3 points progress across the year. Her writing has made 12 points, this is outstanding progress. Sophie always gives 100% effort, using and applying all advice and teaching. Her progress is earned through hard work.
Evelyn Tomlinson / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / She has worked very hard this year to bring her levels to above National Standards. She has achieved level 5 in writing, reading and maths. Her writing has moved from a 3a, she thoroughly deserves the levels she has reached. She was determined to succeed and she has!
Sean Hale / Citizenship
Good class or school member / He always looks for ways to help. He has become responsible and sensible. He managed the band for the performance when I was busy. He willingly helps anyone who asks. We appreciate his respect for everyone, adults or children alike.
Jack Groom / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / He is an all-round player and sportsman. He understands the need for team work and that games are won by thinking. He is determined and puts in 100% effort but he does not let ambition make him forget that everybody playing is important and has something to contribute.

Excellent progress with school work / She has grown in confidence in class throughout the year. She has also shown a great deal of effort and determination to improve her reading and writing. These qualities can be seen at home and the quality of the homework produced.
Rory Shols / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / He has really shown what he is capable of this year. In both maths and literacy, Rory has worked hard and reaped the rewards with the levels attained in the last assessment week. He is really starting to reach his potential.
Tia Casey / Citizenship
Good class or school member / The class nominated and voted for this award. We felt that Tia regularly shows understanding and caring for others. This could be seen by her being a regular mention in our ‘be kind’ book.
David Vine / Sports
Effort, determination, sportsmanship, team player, an all-rounder / The class nominated and voted for this award. David regularly shows that he is a team player and the class felt that he demonstrates a variety of traits that support good sportsmanship.

Excellent progress with school work / This member of the class has worked extremely hard during the year. The progress made, especially in writing has been outstanding. They listen attentively, act upon advice and have shown a real determination to learn during the year. If they carry this attitude forward into their secondary school, than I am sure they will continue to have success.
Daisy Cox / Achievement
Excellent level of achievement with work / This member of the class has worked very hard during the year. Always listening to advice and acting on feedback, always aware of the targets set and possessing a real desire to improve and attain as highly as possible. This person shows a real pride in their work and real frustration when they do not do as well as they had hoped. Determination to succeed has been a feature of their work all year.
Georgia Cole / Citizenship
Good class or school member / This class member has proved to be trustworthy on all occasions as well as being truthful and hardworking; they are a real example to the rest of the class. Quiet in nature, but showing real determination; unassuming, yet kind and helpful; modest, yet with every reason to feel proud of their achievements this year. This is not just my opinion, but she was the victor of the class vote as well.
