RE: 49th POLAR GAMES – February 1st and 2nd , 2018 WHITEHORSE

ATTENTION: Grade 6 Teachers

Once again the Yukon Schools Athletic Association (YSAA) will be organizing the Polar Games.

Participants will have a choice of two groups:

1)Curling, Bocci, Broomball, Basketball, Badminton, Swimming

2)Archery, Speed Skating, Soccer, Basketball, Badminton, Swimming

**** Note: those choosing Option 2 must be able to skate. (Own skates are preferable, some speed skates will be available to try . Own helmets are mandatory. Hockey, biking, skiing will all do)

The pool has been booked for two full days, so every participant will be scheduled a swim time each day.

INFORMATION SHEET

  1. All staff will be expected to supervise 1 or 2 teams each day and/or be assigned specific duties by YSAA. Please let me know which event you would like to run/supervise. (some events have clinicians doing the instructing.) First come, first choice.)
  1. Participants are to abide by YSAA codes of conduct. Included is an athlete code of conduct for your athletes. Please have your students sign and return to your YSAA representative.
  1. Refereeing – Information to follow.
  1. Busing – to and from venue only. All events at Canada Games center and Mt. Mac

NB: There will be NO BUSES BEFORE OR AFTER THE DANCE.

YOUR BRACELET IS YOUR BUS, DANCE AND POOL PASS.

  1. Opening ceremonies – Thursday, February 1st, 8:30 at the Canada Games Centre

-all schools are expected to be at CGC on time.

  1. Teacher/Coach meeting # 1 – Wednesday, January 10 @ Sport Yukon Board Room
  1. Teacher/Coach meeting # 2 – Wednesday, January 31 @ 19:00 Sport Yukon board Room……. for last minute details and changes. One teacher from each school to attend.
  1. Dance - Thursday, Feb 3rd from 19:00 – 21:00 at TBA. Any schools interested in hosting please let me know.
  1. At least ONE staff member from your school must supervise.
  1. There may be changes to the sport groups if too many students enter one group. All attempts will be made to give students their choice of activities, but balancing of groups may need to happen.

11. Because of the proximity of events, minimal time will be scheduled for transition. This will allow a 30 minute lunch break to be scheduled.

Entry fees - $25.00 per student – Please bring cheques to coaches meeting on January 31 2018. Checks payable to YSAA. One cheque from each school.

Athlete Code of Conduct

  1. I will play by the rules of the sport and in the spirit of the game.
  2. I will control my temper. I will not swear or act inappropriately.
  3. I will treat coaches, teammates, officials and opponents with respect at all times.
  4. I will remember that coaches and officials are there to help me and, for the most part, are volunteering their time.
  5. I will accept decisions of the coaches and officials.
  6. I will do my best to be a true team player.
  7. I understand that attending practices is an important part of being committed to a team.
  8. I will respect the venues that I play or practice at, follow the rules set out by the facility, and treat them as though they were my own.
  9. I will remember that, as an athlete, I am a role model and I am representing my school, my team and my community. I will try my hardest to make them proud.
