Goal: Students will complete a minimum of 3 projects as outlined in the purchased kits and create at least one original project using the Arduino kits during the 15-16 school year

Christie Orlosky - Investigating the Effects of Microhabitats on Food Chain Complexity and Biodiversity through the Use of Mini-Cover Boards - Armstrong and West Shamokin Jr/Sr High Schools - $1,000

Goal: To encourage students to investigate the effects of microhabitats on food chain complexity and biodiversity. Students will describe and explain biotic and abiotic factors affecting these topics through data collection and analysis.

Jolena McFarland & Angela Poster - COPE 24: Preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome and Child Abuse - Armstrong and West Shamokin Jr/Sr High Schools - $1,000

Goal: To address academic standards as well as educate students on the physical, emotional, social, and financial costs of parenting and the stressors that can result. We will discuss the demands of parenting especially when adding in all of the other stressors of the real world. Students will be viewing 10 parenting scenarios in which parents could be tempted to abuse children (child not sleeping, parent up all night long, stress at work, etc) and what actions are appropriate and what are not. Class discussion is followed up with asking what went wrong, what other choices did the caregiver have and what should the caregiver have done to prevent this abuse.

Goal 2: Students will discover firsthand the important roles of caregivers in the life of a child and the importance of high quality parenting skills and readiness.

Jolena McFarland & Angela Poster - Playschool Lab and Introductory to Student Teaching - Armstrong and West Shamokin Jr/Sr High Schools - $1,000

Goal 1: Introduce high school students to the field of early childhood education as well as experience a pre-student teaching atmosphere.

Goal 2: Students will discover firsthand the important roles of educators in the life of a child and the importance of high quality child care.

Goal 3: Utilize STEAM in a Pre-Student Teaching Environment within a childcare setting.

Goal 4: Prepare students for the workplace by learning about licensing rules and regulations, different career paths, and safety considerations.

Tracy Eddy - Meaningful Math - Dayton Elementary School - $1,000 EITC

Goal: The goal of Meaningful Math is to establish why being proficient in math is essential to life inside and outside of the classroom walls. Through Meaningful Math, students will apply common core standards to real life situations. With direct and immediate feedback and reinforcement of math activities that require more problem solving or critical thinking skills and slightly less paper and pencil practice, students will be more motivated to learn elementary math topics and apply them to authentic and meaningful problem solving situations.

Tracy Eddy - Kindle the Fire - Dayton Elementary School - $1,000

Goal: This project will provide the opportunity to expand the classroom library digitally. By analyzing student reading levels and interests, I will be able to incorporate new, classic, or current books representing a variety of genres into my reading instruction.
