A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of James H. Newberry.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to our friend and colleague, James H. Newberry, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, James H. Newberry was born on May 10, 1918, a native of Barren County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on February 12, 2001; and

WHEREAS, James H. Newberry was the loving son of the late Thomas Pemberton Newberry and Willie Winlock Newberry; he was the devoted husband of Carrie Walker Newberry; and he was the loving father of two sons, James H. Newberry, Jr., and his wife, Cheryl Ann, of Lexington, and Steven W. Newberry, and his wife, Vickie, of Hiseville; and he was the proud grandfather of two grandsons, Walker Newberry, of Hiseville, and Drew Newberry, of Lexington; and

WHEREAS, James H. Newberry, a member of family educators, graduated from Western Kentucky University, and he taught as a one-room schoolteacher; he served his country with distinction in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and after the war, he taught Veterans agriculture classes; and

WHEREAS, James H. Newberry ably served his constituents from the Twenty-Seventh Representative District in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1958 through 1959, representing Barren County; and from the Ninth Senatorial District in the Kentucky State Senate from 1964 through 1967, representing Allen, Barren, and Hart Counties; and

WHEREAS, James H. Newberry was an esteemed member of the Barren County community where he was a devout member of the Hiseville Baptist Church, serving as deacon for many years before being named Deacon Emeritus; he was a former member and vice chairman of the Glasgow-Barren County City-County Planning Commission, and he was a former director of the Hiseville Deposit Bank; he formerly ran Newberry Hardware in Hiseville, and at the time of his passing, he was a director of Newberry Brothers, Inc., a family farm operation; and

WHEREAS, the passing of James H. Newberry has left a void that will be difficult to fill, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of James H. Newberry, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of James H. Newberry.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Steve Nunn for presentation to the family of James H. Newberry.
