Continuing In Well Doing

Galatians 6:9 (King James Version)
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not

  • This is the section of Gal. 6 which has to do with sowing and reaping
  • If you are going to reap, it is essential that you keep sowing that which is right
  • God’s people are to do well and not stop doing that which is good in the sight of a holy and Almighty God
  • Let’s look at this verse:

I.  An Inspired Standard (Gal.6:9a).

Notice the two words "well doing."

According to 1 Peter 2:15 (King James Version)
For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

A.  well doing silences the ignorance of foolish men.

1.  To "silence" is to "muzzle "

B.  Well doing helps you as you serve the Lord in this world.

1.  it helps others as they benefit from your well doing

2.  it glorifies God

C.  Sometimes one must suffer for well doing

  • 1 Peter 3:17 (King James Version)
For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

1.  but we should not shirk from it

II.  A prevailing threat

(Gal.6:9b). "Let us not be weary..."

A.  It is easy to get weary while doing right

1.  The word "weary" means to be "utterly spiritless, tired out, or exhausted."

B.  There is a difference between quitting a good work, and taking a little break to refresh for the task before you

1.  a vacation could be very good for you.

2.  It is easy to get weary in well doing because of:

a.  the weakness of the flesh

b.  the work of Satan to oppose

c.  the wooing of the world

3.  (They would say just stop serving God, it is not worth the effort–they say).

III.  A Heartening Promise

(Gal. 6:9c). "In due season ye shall reap."

A.  To "reap"comes from the little Greek word "ther iz o", which means "to heat."

1.  It has reference to summer

a.  If you keep working for a summer harvest

b.  reaping time will eventually come

B.  Satan will tell you differently

1.  your efforts for the Lord are not in vain

1 Corinthians 15:58 (King James Version)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

C.  God will honor every effort to honor and serve Him

1.  That involves reward down here and rewards in the life to come.

2.  When you reap you get a return

IV.  A Controlling Condition

(Gal.6:9d).Note the words, "If we faint not."

  • Some of the promises of God are conditional
  • others are unconditional.
  • This promise is conditional.

A.  To "faint" comes from two words which literally mean "to loosen from."

1.  We can not let trying circumstances keep us from doing what is right in the sight of God

2.  We cannot unhook completely from what God wants us to do in life

B.  There will eventually be a "reaping" for those who

1.  faithfully, wholehearted, and devoutly serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

C.  If God promises it, count on it to happen. Persist in well doing.
