JOB TITLE: Recreation and Community Services Attendant

Director of Recreation and Community Services (Senior Manager) or

Recreation and Events Coordinator (in their absence)

JOB CLASSIFICATION: C-2

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

Reporting to the Harbour Master, this position will assist with operations of the Wharf and Tourist Information Centre including administration, launch ramp operations, and the maintenance of the public washrooms and parking facilities in a safe and clean condition for public use. Meets and greets visitors and provides tourist information.

TASKS

·  Provides great customer services including in person, telephone, written and email communications

·  Meet and greet visitors at the Tourist Information Centre and acts as a community ambassador

·  Provide information about activities, accommodations, shopping, attractions, etc. in Penetanguishene and the surrounding Southern Georgian Bay region, including ability to provide directions

·  Assist with maintenance of reference files and inventory stocking

·  Record and maintain daily records information related to visitor numbers and other statistics

·  Assist the Harbour Master in all aspect of the operation of the Wharf and Ticket Information Centre

·  Assist Recreation and Events Coordinator with programming, Bayside Market, events or promotions

·  Sell miscellaneous giftware and issue transaction receipts

·  Maintain interior and exterior entry into Tourist Information Centre in a pleasing and presentable condition. Light housekeeping at the Tourist Information Centre including dusting, vacuuming, dishes, etc.

·  Monitor daily, overnight boaters and collect the appropriate fees

·  Assist boaters who may be launching or mooring their boat

·  Grass cutting with a hand mower, pruning and basic gardening as required

·  Weed flower beds and water as required

·  Sweep launching ramp and keep free of debris

·  Keep the dock area free of seaweed and debris

·  Clean washrooms, showers and Wharf office as instructed

·  Keep a log of all boaters and fill out a small questionnaire with overnight boaters

·  Sell seasonal/daily passes to launch ramp/parking lot facilities and issue transaction receipts

·  Other office related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Must be 18 years of age or older

·  Excellent customer services and interpersonal skills

·  Bilingual (English and French) would be an asset

·  Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C” certificate

SKILLS

·  Good time management skills, punctual, reliable and responsible

·  Must be computer literate and have good keyboarding skills.

·  Ability to receive direction and carry out duties following policies and procedures with little or no supervision.

·  Physically fit

·  Working knowledge of grass cutting, pruning and basic gardening an asset

·  Must have basic math skills

·  Understanding of Health and Safety relating to Wharf operations and Tourist Information Centre operations and ability to follow regulations as set out by the Occupational Health and Safety Act

WORKING CONDITIONS:

·  Working environment contains the usual risks and discomforts

·  No special safety precautions are required

·  Weekly schedule varies and includes evenings, weekends and statutory holidays

WAGE RATE: $11.40 per hour.
