Course Requirement:

  • 1 credit of Physical Education is required for graduation. 1 credit of ROTC is an acceptable substitution for PE for State graduation requirements.

Grading Policy:

  • Students will receive 10 points per day. 4 pts is for dressing out in proper attire and 6 pts is given for participation and sportsmanship.
  • Written work will be graded on a points system and included in the overall grade.
  • The final grade is based on 25% from each of the 4 quarters.
  • Failure to dress out 5 times in one quarter will result in a failing grade that quarter.
  • A 100-90B 89-80C 79-70D 69-60F 59-0

Dress Requirements:

  • Students are required to bring their Physical Education clothes to school with them each day. Proper dress to receive full credit includes Athletic tennis shoes, athletic shorts, and a t-shirt. Wind/warm up pants and long sleeve athletic shirts are also permitted.
  • If a student does not have all required dress attire, that will be counted as a failure to dress and the student will be deducted their points.
  • Items NOT ACCEPTED. Sandals of any sort, Sperry’s or other boat shoes, flats, slippers or shoes that don’t tie. This is a liability issue and students will not be given points.
  • Students who have on acceptable shoes will and are expected to participate in order to obtain their remaining points for the day (6).

Locker Room Procedures:

  • Students will be expected to be waiting outside the locker room when the tardy bell rings. Students not yet in the gymnasium prior to the bell will be marked tardy.
  • All students will be given 6 minutes to change before and after class.
  • Once dressed, students are not allowed to leave the locker room until everyone is dressed and ready to go.
  • All students will receive a locker and lock to use during their PE class. The lockers are shared; therefore items can’t be left in the locker all day. If lockers are available after assignment, students can bring their own pad locks and use an empty locker.
  • Students are expected to lock all their valuables up and not leave them lying around. Preferably not brought to PE at all!
  • THE PE DEPARTMENT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS!!!!!!!!!!

Games and Activities:

  • The following activities are available at HHIHS. Some or all of the activities will be discussed, studied, and participated in throughout the year.
  • Football, Basketball, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Lacrosse, Handball, Dance, Track and Field, Weight Training, Tennis, Badminton, Pickle Ball, Eclipse Ball, Floor Hockey, Kickball, and Yoga.
  • Each unit of study will have written tests, skills tests, and reflections written about what was liked/disliked, and learned.

Writing Assignments

  • Students will be required to do writing assignments monthly. On days of written work, students will not be required to dress out and will need to bring a pen and paper. Students will know well in advance when these days are going to be.

  • I have read and will abide by all procedures and rules stated in this syllabus. I will show up to class with a good attitude and give my best effort in all activities that are introduced.
  • I understand that not dressing out fully 5 times in one quarter will result in a failing grade for that quarter.
