It is a privilege to introduce to you Blessings in a Backpack —an organization that is mobilizing communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school age children across America who might otherwise go hungry. We work toward this mission by providing backpacks filled with food to children who qualify for the Federal Free or Reduced Meal Program every Friday of the school year (38-weeks).
In the SEASON/MONTH of YEAR, Blessings in a Backpack began providing hunger-free weekends to ## children at SCHOOL NAME in TOWN. Due to the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of community members, the program is expanding to feed ## children. Currently, there are nearly ### SCHOOL NAME students who qualify for the program.
Passionate volunteers, with the support of Blessings in a Backpack’s national office, lead our program site. They secure food and fill and distribute backpacks to children each week. Menu items are child-friendly and shelf sustainable. Menu items include ravoli, oatmeal, granola bars, cereal, and fruit cups.
Started in 2005 in Louisville, KY, Blessings in a Backpack is now feeding more than 88,000 children at more than 950 schools across the nation—in 46 states and Washington D.C. A leader in the movement to end childhood hunger, we strive to ensure children do not go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals and communities to take action.
